The X-Files: Season 10

10x05 Babylon

Chris Carter should stop writing episodes. The season premiere, and this one, both written and directed by him, have easily been the worst of this season. Everything else, written by other people, was great. Also, Miller and Einstein are terrible - if they're being set up to become the main characters of future seasons, I'm out.

When it isn't awful, it's cringe worthy.

They gotta introduce Miller and Einstein somehow. Just don't tell my heart, my achy breaky heart, or I'll go Woo Woo! The trippy sequence was cool though.

While I can forgive Babylon for not quite feeling like the old or even the new X-Files as there wasn't much that felt paranormal here (almost felt like any other procedural), I really can't get on board with the awful approach to Islamophobia, terrorism, and intolerance. Not only is it furthering the stereotypes, but side-characters expressing explicit Islamophobia and xenophobia went without correction from any of the protagonist (Mulder, Scully, or even Einstein and Miller). And then the writing was trying so hard to make this episode light and comedic while still representing rather serious issues.
Just not a good episode by any standard.

Daring episode with many facettes to it and I really liked the trashy parts a lot with Miller and Einstein.
But what I like most about it are all the negative comments because of the muslim terrorism plot.
It's like an instant allergic reaction that people get claiming this is islamophobic, or otherwise a disgrace or disgusting.
This episode includes several glimpses - due to strict timeframe - of how muslims are seen in the western society these days, including the theme of (media) brainwashing everybody suffers from. People reacting to this episode negatively, who totally ignore that underlying but at parts very obvious criticism, support that criticism unknowingly in the first place with how they react. Lovely.
That gives even more reason to do an episode like this.
Thumbs up from me.

Since they only had a 6 episode season; I wish they would focus on the main story more. Like in the 2002 finale; the Cigarette Smoking Man said there would be an alien take over in 2012. Need to explain why that never happened. And how the Cigarette Smoking Man who was blown to bits is even back.
Hopefully they explain that in the finale but they can't cover all the answers in one episode. I always liked the filler episodes the most in the show.
But a filler about Mulder trying to communicate with a terrorist in a coma by taking schrooms ? Not the best writing the show has ever seen. At least Mulder on schrooms led to a very brief Lonegun men cameo and some laughs though.

Why? Why they revived X-files? Just to kill it? Disgrace it? Why, that is the real mystery this season

Hope the final episode next week is as good as the first ones where. Cause these episodes lately have been pure disappointments..

As a young man of 18 years when i watched this soon after airing, i took life and the logic of fiction a lot more seriously at the time.

While i can still see the lack of logic in the plot of this episode, i found a lot more comedy in the episode and more nuance in the political situation, where as an 18 year old i didn't see the finer points of the comedy or the political situation, like most young people probably won't.

And in taking life less seriously and trying to be a more easygoing person, i can accept the sillyness of this kind of episode much more, and try to appreciate the artistry behind it. That's not to invalidate any other perspective on the episode, this is just my own.

Nice Lone Gunmen cameo.

I don't like the pills were just placebo's. Placebo's don't have that kind of effect, and it lessens this path of investigation in the episode. Scully's method wasn't really tested either. I do like the other FBI characters though.

Two agents named Miller and Einstein seek help from Mulder and Scully to communicate with a comatose terrorist who's survived his own suicide bomb attack. Something I've been noticing is how much the openings of Season Ten episodes have a very similar feel to those of the show Fringe. There a loud musical sting before a sudden cut to black, followed by the show theme song and opening credits. It's got to be intentional. When Mulder hallucinates and line dances in a Country-western saloon, it's just eye-rolling levels of bad.

Secondary characters in this episode: Agent Miller, Agent Einstein

A bit of the lone gunmen here

About the only good thing was the trip sequence where David was really great. The rest was lame and Miller and Einstein (really ?!) were not even original or funny to begin with. Watched this episode for the second time and had totally forgotten about them which should give you a hint about how memorable they are. I agree this was kind of wasting time on a short six episode season.

A total crap.....unbelievable idiocy.

Miller & Einsten... Introducing the new faces of the x files maybe?

Methods A "little" weird to question the witness. Those "Mulder and Scully" Youngs

Let me guess: after the 6th episode Fox will not renew with David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson.
Instead of that, they will bring to us a new X-Files series with Miller and Einstein.
