Alien bounty hunters and alien clones... And Mulder's sister...
If the x-files had previously jumped the shark in regards to it's alien stuff and storylines, then this episode does nothing to rectify that, and instead throws MORE stuff into the mix.
Now i realize why many sci-fi tv shows become so messy with their plotlines and throwing many elements in at once in the first season or early seasons... It's because the x files did it! And it was successful. In retrospect, it doesn't work, but because the x files has generally above average writing, and is good a lot of times, it's often forgiveable. Along with the high quality production and cast.
But these days, the story elements and convoluted alien plotline just doesn't work. And in rewatching, i'm surprised to find how much they threw into the mix within two seasons! And a lot of what they even threw in has lost it's more grounded feel compared to the first season. Maybe part of the mistake was the over-confidence going into season 2 because of the success from season 1. Season 1 was more grounded and focused.
I find myself becoming increasingly uninterested in the alien plotline. And i just feel disappointed in what the x files has become already. A kind of convoluted mess that has long lost it's grounded feel in regards to the alien plotline, but it's just decent enough to keep me watching.
Because humans are poor stewards of Earth (yawn), aliens are here creating clones/hybrids. Cliffhanger!!!
Secondary characters in this episode: Bounty hunter, Gregors, Samantha, Bill Mulder

Terrific episode. Well paced and with some great twists, especially that cliffhanger ending. My only criticism is the repeated missed calls between Scully and Mulder in the second half of the episode that successfully ratchet up the tension but are a little contrived, particularly as Scully has her mobile on her. That said, it's a fairly minor niggle about a great episode.
