The X-Files: Season 5

5x11 Kill Switch

With the eyes and knowledge of the year 2019 this is just hilariously dumb but entertaining. :D

haha no domain in her address, invisigoth@com. I wonder if she used AOL back then, even a T3 (fiber optics) connection seemed to be existent. Her makeup and costume kinda reminds me of Furiosa from Mad Max: Fury Road. Also, every time Mulder holds up the disc and says 'Twilight Time,' reminds me of the studio of the same name that's releasing classic movies on Blu-ray. He's so Lawnmower Man VR in this one.

The writer clearly liked their original character, as she was smarter than Scully and made her jealous, and then in the end her consciousness was mixed with the AI.

The writer of this episode is William Gibson, prominent cyberpunk author and originator. While people may balk at the advanced nature of the technology in this episode, i think it's very prescient. What's shown here may be the future. We already have advanced headsets that show you a virtual world. Eventually you'll probably be able to go into one fully.

The treatment of AI is very basic though, very under cooked. It acted only with murderous intent, and not the presumed great knowledge or awareness a true AI would have for example. Not even a developing consciousness. There was only the "humor" that the woman said it had, and that was it. So it's not a very good depiction of AI, but i thought the episode was quite good and thrilling.

An episode about artificial intelligence and a computer developing a conscious and self-preservation. There were some weird scenes involving Mulder and things suggested to him in computer-influenced dreams. But mostly, this is a totally ridiculous computer hacker, AI, mish-mash of a story filled with techno-babble.

Secondary characters in this episode: The Lone Gunmen
