This episode came so, so close to being great. There's something very special here. I especially like the actor playing the protagonist. It's no wonder, considering the writer. That's why the conclusion is so surprising...or lack thereof. A The X-Files specialty. It's definitely a bug, not a feature.
So many possibilities sprang to mind - and they chose the laziest and most unsatisfactory non-ending you'd never think of... because so many better options exist. From the doctor having a similar condition or working with those with "special needs" like our protagonist, to the main character having an actual arc and becoming a better entity (via a cheesy self-help group) - or simply getting away with it. That and a better wrap-up from our mostly absent agents. Has a single X-File ever been "solved" or resolved in a satisfactory manner? This was such a good episode let down by the most banal of (non-) endings.
I used to like this one way more. This features a young man who feeds on human brains. The opening sequence at the fast food drive-thru is eerie. Although, I would never treat an employee like that customer did. I wouldn't want to think of what they may have done to my food order. There are a few funny bits scattered about. My favorite being the hallucination of brains frying on a grill instead of hamburger patties.
Mulder is a thorn in the guy's side throughout but his pestering instead of taking the suspect into custody costs several lives. This one really plays as a tragic comedy.

This was a pretty cool episode. I wonder who write it. It feels almost Stephen King-style. The kid's counselor looked so familiar too. I thought she was Jessie from Saved By The Bell, but the more I watched I later learned that she was the actress for April O'Neil (Judieth Hoag) from the original Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movie.
