It's definitely a batshit-crazy story for our times, and I enjoyed the mad ride. However, the producers really had an agenda going into this, and I find myself resentful of their overall editorial approach. A few points:
Joe Exotic is a bad guy. He's charismatic and fascinating to watch, but the show does a lot to gloss over his actions. The series does its best to gloss over what he did and let him express his own side of the story, but come on. The guy was being harassed by Carole Baskin for legitimate reasons (exploiting and breeding exotic animals) and reacted in the most insane way. This is a guy who manipulated straight guys into marrying him in exchange for a steady supply of drugs.
The series does a huge disservice to Carole Baskin. Is she insane? Hell yeah she is. But crazy isn't a reason to send someone to prison. Yeah, she's as obsessed with big cats as the rest of the cast of crazies, but the huge difference is that she RESCUES exploited animals. She doesn't breed them. She doesn't sell them for profit. That the big takeaway of the series is "Well, she is as insane as the rest of them" really does a huge disservice to a significant difference between Baskin and the exotic pet breeders.
The series really overplays the "Baskin killed her husband" angle to prop up Joe Exotic and for the shock of it. It presents a lot of "facts" as-is to support this without exploring the arguments against them. For instance, Don's Power of Attorney included the activation clause for disappearance because Don Baskin was legitimately concerned he might disappear without a trace in Costa Rica.
So. A cool story, overall, and a crazy cast of characters, but it's unfortunate that people are taking this series as definitive documentary truth when it's a well-spun fiction with amplified craziness for the sake of shock value.
Well that was just a wild ride from start to fucking finish. So many twists and turns. Here are my final thoughts:
1. Carole Baskin 100% did kill her second husband Don and fed him to the tigers.
2. Jeff Lowe definitely should be in prison alongside Joe.
3. Why was the scene of James Garretson on a jet ski in any way necessary?
4. I hate everyone. Except John Reinke and Saff Saffery. They cool.
I dont care where they went with it, that beotch Carole Baskin killed her husband and fed him to them tigers. Her "rescue" business is no different that what Joe was doing. Nutjobs.

I was pulled in by the hype. Truth is certainly stranger than fiction.
Not many redeemable characters in this, not even Carole. She was making money off these animals, just like all the others. But there were some decent folk, the two amputees among them. The biggest tragedies were Travis and, of course, the animals themselves.
A compelling watch, for sure.
The episodes get a bit sloppy/jumbled towards the end (the last 3 episodes, maybe) with a lot of threads left unexplored.. but yeah.. batshit crazy, that's what this is.
Season 1 is probably the craziest thing I have ever seen on TV. Season 2 is extremely eventless and mediocre.

There are a lot of things that bother me about this show. It's not bad, it's definitely entertaining, but I feel like a lot of actually important things in this show are overlooked or just blatantly ignored.
The creators of this show set out to highlight the abuse of these tigers but ultimately fail by focusing on the people who keeps these animals locked up. First of all, I get it, everything happening is insane and can't be ignored either. Yet the only moment they actually seem to talk about these tigers is in the last 10 seconds of this almost 6 hours long show. They also completely fail to mention how you can take action to actually improve the life of these animals and how to prevent more tigers from ending up in these horrible places. Secondly; the insane praise many on the internet seem to have for Joe exotic makes me genuinely nauseous. Joe abuses not only animals but mentally abuses people, even to the point of one of them taking their own life. Yet he comes out of this like some kind of anti-hero? Thirdly, the villainization of Carole Baskin is ridiculous. She's no angel, nobody in this show is, but the way this is cut makes the only person in this whole shit show who is actually trying to help these tigers look like the worst.

This was an incredibly underwhelming show that dragged on way too long with no substance. Perfect for a 3 part documentary but 7 episodes of filler content for a fairly boring and predictable ending is at most 4/10.
This show might be interesting for a normie but for anyone who has existed in the 21st century and used the internet, the plot and content of the show is underwhelming. It's just not interesting.
I really don't understand why are people so hyped about this documentary. I'm not saying it's bad I just don't get it what is so awesome about it when people are saying how it will change your thinking, life or whatever, you must see it because I don't know what, because world will explode. I'm not at any side of anyone because most of those people were completely nuts but Carol? Yeah she's definitely crazy b:black_heart:tch too.

I mean seriously, if this was a scripted show I would stop watching because the characters are too fucking crazy and unbelievable. But this is actually real. What The Actual Fuck.
This entire show and everyone in it makes me sick to my stomach. Screw all of these people and their sick hobbies.

This is a story that demands being told, but also not told over two seasons. Did I still shamelessly watch the second? Absolutely. But there real meet on the bones is Season 1. It was a worldwide phenomenon for a reason and you owe it to yourself to watch this story if you have (somehow) not watched it already.

The Tiger King is an interesting documentary that delves into the bizarre world of big cat enthusiasts and the colorful characters that inhabit it. However, at times the documentary seems over the top and fabricated, making it difficult to distinguish what is real and what is sensationalized for entertainment purposes. Despite this, the documentary is still worth watching for its fascinating subject matter and personalities that are sure to leave a lasting impression.

Absolutely insane story full of oddballs.
As a documentary series I found it well documentaried, but the subject matter was going in for shock and awe and ... well ... I grew up around carnies so was neither shocked nor awed. Yeah, after the lights go out, drugs come out; that's how that level of performance based show business works. Aside from his mullet and the questionable animal husbandry techniques in use it was just ... I mean the documentarians could have just as easily gone to any renaissance faire or traveling state fair company and made the same series.
I whispered to myself "what the fuck" and "is this for real???" every 2 to 5 minutes on each episode.
It's hard to believe this kind of stuff happens, that so many crazy, manipulative, trash people can effortlessly come together and do the things they do so freely. No one involved with this should be allowed to care for animals or have the kind of power they have, period.
Carole Baskin is just as bad as anyone involved in this mess, if not worse for being such a hypocrite. Not just because she's "rescuing" big cats just to keep them in her own cages, but also because she probably did had something to do with her husband's disappearance. I don't buy her good person act and I can totally see her feeding her husband to the tigers. The way she laughs about how "crazy" that idea is... cringy and telling tbh.

Extremely entertaining and bingeable show featuring a full cast of complete scumbags that don't give a single shit about tigers or animals in general even if they may have back when they started. Tim Lowe comes off the worst, just a complete con and manipulator without a single shred of human decency in him. Carole Baskin almost definitely killed her first husband. Even Joe, who they make you feel sorry for at times, is totally manipulative and thinks he can do anything he wants, including that white trash haircut that died in 1985.
These people are awful. Which unfortunately tends to make for the best reality shows. This one is no exception.

This was the quickest binge watch of a documentary I've watched in awhile. It just kept getting chaotic as it went along. Everyone in this is either a scumbag or incredibly shady. There's only two sides to people. I guess if you can control animals, you can control people as well.
I wasn't sure if I should laugh or be disturbed, so I did both. Also I think Carole Baskin really did feed her husband to tigers. I'm getting an O. J. Simpson vibe from her.

Man, this was unexpected and wildly entertaining. All of the people involved have done some shady things and the docu does a good job of highlighting all of the bases and leaving the audience to form their own opinions.
