It’s like watching a car crash with tiaras and cupcake dresses. You shouldn't watch but you can’t help yourself because you honestly cannot believe these mothers are doing and saying the things they are. You’ll hear the phrase “total package” so many times that you become numb to it. They’ll mention how important facial beauty is so often you can understand how these young girls became brainwashed into believing that walking around in tacky hair, tacky makeup and tacky costumes makes them beautiful.
It’s pretty obvious this entire beauty pageant business is a scam. The only way you can compete is to have a "cupcake" dress which I might add is perhaps one of the biggest sins against fashion I have ever seen. They’re created in horrid colors and overdone to the point that if you put one within 50 feet of Vogue, it would catch on fire. Furthermore, they make these toddlers up like baby drag queens and call it “Glitz.” For the life of me, I can’t understand why you’d put these children in this clothing with this makeup but these parents have no common sense.
As if that isn't bad enough, they take their pictures and remove ANY indication the children are alive through retouching. Take a good look at the portraits – they belong on Photoshop disasters.
The crowning process is a confusing mess resulting in something where the “queen” is actually not a winner but rather the winner gets nothing during the first “crowning” but comes back for something called the “Ultimate Grand Supreme” blah blah blah in which she’ll get a tacky crown and maybe $500 for her $500+ entry fee.
You are kidding me. It sounds like a name a five year old made up.
While a handful of parents seem to have their heads on straight and are doing this because it’s what their kids want to do and they don’t care if their kids place or not. A majority of parents are doing this for themselves. They pressure their kids to place in the “supreme” court. They bribe their children to practice. They put their children in painful costumes. They drag their children to pageants so they can also compete in the adult sections or worse, parents are living out their failed dreams through their kids.
I tried watching the first episode on Netflix just for fun since I always wanted to see it. I watched the whole episode but boy.. I regretted it. It's all so degrading to these children. To make matters worse, one of the mothers proceeded to say their daughter looked like they had "bowed legs" right to her face! I just don't agree with this show and what they're doing. It's exploitation of children, and it's going to potentially ruin their self esteem in the future (or other people's self esteem if they get the bloated ego). I don't even know how this aired.
