The fake slow-motion reactions bother me way more than they should
Sasha: "Jaws wasn't just a blockbuster or a pop culture phenomenon. It was a time and a place, a feeling, an atmosphere that can never be fully appreciated by anyone who wasn't there."
Sadly, this episode hasn't gotten me to empathise with this narrator at all, and it sucks. Like, I know I can't appreciate like you, Sasha, so show me how
Sasha: "All we could think about was sitting in the dark, elbow-to-elbow with our other family."
Okay, that was an impressive shot
Sasha: "The more times I watched it, the closer I looked. The closer I looked, the more I saw. Things I didn't catch the first, oof, 30 times. And with each new discovery, it was like a whole new movie appeared."
Give me examples!
Sasha: " 'Jaws' comes alive in all the senses. You smell it. You hear it. You taste it. You live it."
Omg, stop saying things and explain why
Sasha: "We were standing the same lines, sitting in the same seats, but sometime between Jaws and E.T., we looked down, and there were... boobs."
Omg, who wrote this? Why are all the men the encounter staring at them?
Sasha: "Are we to blame for the death of all good things in cinema? Yes, and no."
Sasha, what are you talking about? This is unhealthy discussion
Sasha: "It was a great story brilliantly told."
I like this movie, but if I didn't, I don't believe Sasha would convince me
Sasha: "For me, movies will always represent the manifestation of the surreal, the beautiful, and the terrifying."
Review That was bad. Not only does it promote the idea that cinema is this mythical, untouchable entity, but it acts like cinema is dead and Hollywood only creates trash. I can agree with them to an extent, but the lengths they go to are pretentious and toxic.
Sasha Stone's monotone, droney voice doesn't help either. I can't sense any passion for this movie, even though the words would suggest this feeling. This episode is so self-indulgent in the worst possible ways. It doesn't dive into the film at all, just one person's experience. And sure, the feminist part is great, but the rest is boring.
You're better off watching any YouTube video essay. They at least promote critical thinking and healthy discussion. This "visual essay" might invite it, but it ultimately discourages it.
