While this had a bit too much teen drama around the middle (average The CW type of thing) and can be at times a bit cheesy, this is what the reboot of Sabrina should have been.
Gloomy, dark, morbid, humorous, not taking itself too serious, not trying to push a societal or political agenda.
Rather tell a fun, entertaining story. Can't help it either that it feels a tad Hogwarts-y with the main cliquès.
Hopefully this gets a second season.
Loved it!
Hopefully Netflix doesn't cancel another good show.
Verdict: It’s Awesome, highly recommend.
Amazing acting, with and great and engaging story, Wednesday is a treat if you are looking forward to spend some quality time.
The show made me remember of Harry Potter when I was a kid, how excited I was about this special school thematic and getting dragged around the main protagonist unveiling the mysteries that exists around this lands and how they are connected is with his/her family. But this time alot more morbid.
Despite season one didn’t end with a cliff hanger, I’m looking forward to see if Wednesday come back for a season two.
Unfortunately last episode or two sinks it to your usual YA tropes, which is a shame as almost everything before it was really good and fun, even though twist was predictable. In fact, I would say the main mystery is the weakest part of the show and it's a shame they dedicated so much time to it in the second part of the season. The heart of this show is Wednesdays interactions with everyone around her and I hoped "mystery" would just be a device for fueling that. The other problem is that by the end Nevermore really didn't feel that different than any other high school.
First half (Burton directed) is all great though and the show has good bones, so let's hope they really take quirkiness to next level without conforming to YA form.
No spoilers here, the only info I'm giving are shown in the trailers.
I watched the first two episodes. It feels like a low-cost Harry Potter. We're quickly in this "weird" school were everything is like in the Harry Potter fiction. The most striking similarity is the existence of 4 houses (as shown in the trailer).
Wednesday it nothing more than an edgy teenager. She's far from being like the "real" Wednesday. The trailer is highly confusing: they showed us a Wednesday that felt like a Wednesday, but they quickly "deconstruct" her in the show, right from the first episode. Without seeing the the end of the first season, I can guess that she will become much more like her peers.
Now, for the good parts, I can say that the scenery is awesome and, as actors, Jenna Ortega and Emma Myers seem to be alright. The lightning could be better at times, bu overall, it's doing a good show at setting the atmosphere.
I wasn't really waiting for this show, but I'm steel disappointed. It definitively does not feel like an "Addams" show. Also, I don't see the "Burton touch". In fact, I'm wondering what Burton added to this show... Maybe the scenery?
Funny that the returning word in the episode titles is "Woe", which is the common abbreviation of "Woensdag", the dutch word for "Wednesday".
Fun if you are young at heart
A fun series
Jenna Ortega is obviously fantastic as always in her role, and clearly she just gets the character of Wednesday.
Also if you watched this and enjoyed Christina Ricci in her role I would heavily recommend you watch Yellowjackets, a series which deserves more acclaim.
Let down heavily by how 'CW' it ends up being in it's dialogue and insistence on attempting to shove romance into Wednesdays story line which is a damn shame, felt like it should have leaned more into the mystery of it all and less on the "Teen".
The best Wednesday relationships end up being with Thing focusing on the familial relationship, Enid who acts as a contrast to Wednesday in almost all respects, and Bianca an interesting rival, all of which I wish had more focus.
Another unfortunate disappointment was their need to force a tense relationship with the rest of her family, specifically her mother the love the Addams family has for each other has always been one of the core family values, to strip it of that feels like a heavy disservice to them as a whole.
Also the need Netflix has to constantly use queerbait in their marketing tactics while cancelling every lesbian show that they feature and provide no marketing for is old and homophobic, get a new marketing team Netflix you dumbasses
Starts off strong. The second-to-last episode stumbles in select scenes and casts a shadow over the series (if all of the protagonist's miscast and ill-executed uncle's scenes were removed, the episode would be elevated). The final episode doesn't stick the landing, but is... fine. Overall, good. Could've been great.

I don't bury hatchets... I sharpen them. In no way did I believe this show would be as sharp as it is. But I suppose if you have the showrunners from Smallville and an IP destined for a Tim Burton revision, you can make some magic. It is quite an entertaining twist on the Addams Family. There is a bit of a CW feel, albeit a bigger budget, to it but they just maybe because of Gough and Millar's style or 15 years of Supernatural has given any type of show like this that feeling. Of course, none of this would be half of what it is had it not been for the astounding performance of Jenna Ortega as Wednesday Addams. The Supporting actors all did a great job with a few noteworthy roles in there as well. Who knew Fred Armisen would be a great Fester? Looking forward to Season 2.
"Top" 3 Episodes:
1. A Murder of Woes
2. If You Don't Woe Me by Now
3. Woe What a Night
Mostly morbid fun, but I can’t get into Guzman as Gomez. I’m trying, but I’m grateful he only has a few minutes of screen time in the role. I do know the original cartoons, so yeah, I get it. But…
loved every minute of it.The atmosphere, the editing, costumes, effects, casting everything seemed to work perfectly in this show.I am enthusiastic abou season 2. 8.5/10
From the character of Wednesday Addams to every bit of “it's taking a dark turn” thing,I enjoyed it all along.I am craving for more of it.
I was extremely apprehensive about watching this show. I am a huge Addams Family fan - I used to dress as Wednesday every year for Halloween :jack_o_lantern: At first I was super excited for Tim Burton's spin off of The Addams Family but then I saw the trailer & heard some mixed reviews & I became very wary.
I must say that the series is a grower, it was pleasant enough to begin with but by the last couple of episodes I couldn't wait to find out what was going to happen.
They have left it very open for another season & I will definitely be watching if there is one :fingers_crossed_tone1:
Didn't pass my three-episode rule.
I wouldn't claim this to be one of the best shows I've watched, but I enjoyed it. Really liked the cast and characters.
What could have been truly bad rises above the juvenile tropes that permeate it thanks to the superlative acting-directing duo of Jenna Ortega and Tim Burton. Burton's magic touch for the comically macabre and Ortega's charisma turns an otherwise pedestrian Disney series into pleasing, if forgettable, entertainment.
It does have a bit of a CW vibe but a little darker. Whoever did the casting, did an amazing job. I’ve never cared for the Addams family, but this is fun. Haven’t decided whether I’d continue watching it if there was a second season. I feel like it could fizzle out fast
It was so refreshing and unique. I really enjoyed all the one-liners from the first few episodes. The end for me was quite predictable, but neverthless the show was still entertaining. Already looking forward for the next season.

A fun watch that gave me the same vibes as the 'A Series of Unfortunate Events' show (though I think that was way better).
Jenny Ortega shines as Wednesday and consistently steals every scene she's in. The show is as its best when we see Wednesday interacting with other people and saying absurd things. It's at its worst during action sequences and when we watch Wednesday investigating.
I thought the plot was overly simply and very predictable, but that's to be expected from a show that largely targets a younger audience.
I'd like to see a more engaging and less generic plot if we get a second season, but either way, this show is worth watching for Jenna Ortega alone.
