Strong core group scenes asides, the present-day's plot logistics around them are unreal lol. Walter's plan has me like ???. Really liked the finale's past story though. After fearing for Coach Ben all season, I didn't expect for his character's ultimate goal to be "fuck them kids."
I'm feeling somewhere in the middle about it all. Didn't hate it, didn't love it. Overall, this was an inferior season to the first.
The creators said they wanna do five seasons, and they wrapped up the major plot points in two seasons. Where do they go from here? What else is there to tell? Three seasons of hunting? There is no more suspense, we know pretty much who survives, and I’m not invested in backwards cap girl, Akilah, or Mari to feel bad when they get hunted.
I was tired of the Adam storyline, so I'm not broken up about it ending, yet the way it was hand waved at the last minute was so strange. Like the cops aren’t going to ask questions about two deaths of people who were intimately involved, a bunch of people at the cult pointing guns at each other. The entire cop plotline falls apart if you give it more than 2 seconds of thought. The scene of Walter threatening Saracusa felt like a D-grade Lifetime movie. If someone told me to explain how Walter tied up the police investigation, I wouldn't know how.
Another finale death. That's a cheap trick and easy way to end a finale and it's been done over and over in television. And all because the actress doesn't want to part of the show anymore. I'm okay with adult Natalie being gone since I didn't enjoy Juliette in the role. She was weak compared to the others. But Nat's death was sloppy. Like getting stabbed by Misty is one of the dumbest ways to die. Teen Nat has always been a stronger character than adult Nat.
Who's been watching Taissa's kid this whole time since his other mom is indisposed. Also remember she used to be a senator?
Where’s Crystal’s body? That doesn’t seem like an interesting enough plot point to extend across multiple seasons.
Natalie being the antler queen is good reveal, and the acts of the girls bowing to her is the sign of a new era. The destruction of the cabin represents the last remains of their humanity being destroyed as they lost it when letting Javi die.
Travis would just bite into his a few hours prior deceased brother's heart raw and eat it? It did his character so dirty. He was so distraught when he went missing and now he's like yammy.. And how was he so passive to Van's comments?
I enjoyed Shauna's reaction to not being named the Queen though, and writing about it in her little diary, now that is some teenage girl energy.
How do the girls have all this energy to run around screaming and trying to kill each other and beat each other up when they're starving? We don't really see the effects starving has on them save for hallucinating and acting insane. Totally agree that cuts through my immersion. In so many scenes they more or less act "normal" and not like people on the verge of dying.
I liked that the cabin burned. It was probably Ben and I don’t think it was a sudden change on his character. It makes sense. He was already terrified of the girls since they’ve eaten Jackie.
It just becomes clearer to me that there really is no “it”, there’s no wilderness spirit driving them. They were starved, traumatized teenagers and they needed something to believe in. Or at least to justify their actions.
It was really weird how adult all the ladies were about to hunt and kill one of their own suddenly for no reason as no one is starving- surrounded by a ton of people (cult members) after having a fun night of cocktails and telling sad stories.
I will be back for season 3, but this season was a tad bit disappointing. I hope they decide to make season 3 the last. I can't see this lasting 5 seasons. We have already started the hunting, we pretty much know who survives vs. who doesn't (other than confirmation on coach Ben), which eliminates so much intrigue.
I guess the clock is running out for Ben, but damn, I wish that the whole "it came back with us" turned out to be just the coach trying to fulfill a vow to rid the world of the cannibal cult menace. :joy:
Other than that, it was a pretty good season. It's damn near impossible to keep up with that first season but it was a good effort.
apart for the nice soundtrack, episode was ridiculous and just end the show out of its misery.
The only highlight of the season was the last 5 minutes or so. Pathetic writing.
The present day storylines were just pure trash.
I liked young Natalie (a personal thing for goth chicks) but she was sidelined for most of this season so her death didn't have any emotional impact.
Sophomore slump.
This show is completely off the rails and the editing isn’t good enough to tow the line between supernatural or not. I have no faith that these writers have an actual plan for this show
this was a pretty bad episode.. and tbh i started hating this group of bitc..s
Pretty middling finale for a middling season. The show has definitely lost the magic.
That being said some great music choices as always. From opening with Zombie, to the cover and real version of Killing Moon. And ofc I always appreciate a well placed Radiohead track.
Just a shame about the writing overall. This show is already feeling drawn out and it's only the second season.
Nat did not deserve to die that should be Van :neutral_face::neutral_face::neutral_face::neutral_face::neutral_face::neutral_face:
Anyway I'm on Ben's side
I wondered how they would fill up another season when things were clearly coming to an end but this was an excellent set-up without it feeling like a filler episode. If anything it was a conclusion to the current story (with Adam, the cops and the mystery surrounding Travis' death) and it propelled things forward with Nat's death. A good choice when it comes to one of the main characters to die. Especially at the hands of Misty, who lacked serious empathy when it came to killing Jessica Roberts. I am going to miss Nat though. Both the young and older version of her are portrayed by great actresses and while we get to see young Nat a while longer Juliette Lewis will be missed!
Sadly we'll have to wait quite a while for a new season now :(
Present day was lacking the first 4 or episodes but these last few have been building in tension and I knew I was gonna be sad by the outcome. As soon as we started seeing old faces I just knew.
On a positive I’m absolutely delighted by this female lead cast. And I love that the stakes have been upped for the teenagers next season. If we get one with this justified strike ongoing. I would love to see more questions answered than asked next season because the rest of these buddies are all mentally unstable. Like not just dealing with PTSD anxiety but something truly is wrong with most of them and it didn’t start with the crash that shit was brewing well before.
The casting match for teen to adult is so good. Just thought I’d mention it because I’m astounded every episode
5.5/10
Wait....What
Well that was a
Piss-poor season finale
to a Piss-poor season.
These
Girls/Woman are just
Unlikeable delusional
Shitty psycho
human beings
and at this point
I'm rooting for none
of them past/present.
for me it's
all about
Callie/Jeff (Walter)
they are the real MVP's.
speaking of Walter
not got a clue what
unrealistic stunt you
pulled but whatever.
This season just went
round and round and
went absolutely
nowhere with stuff
just happening to the
point I stopped caring.
Well it only took a 2nd
Season for it to all go to
Shit.
The writing this season
was Fcuking Appalling,
and my sources tell me
They want this to be a
6 season show,
at this point I'm not even
sure that there should be
a 3rd season
Hella I'm not even sure
I myself will be back for
a 3rd I'm seriously considering
Tapping-Out on two.
If there's any sort of a master plan behind the writing here, they're doing a good job of hiding it. The show is taking on more and more of a LOST vibe for me as the creative team continues to lose focus, making me believe that the show has gotten away from them.
What a disappointing death. Feels like something was going on behind the scenes cause story wise it doesn’t make much sense.
stop. she is my favourite character, I am SO sad. and to have misty be the one to kill her. f*ck OFF :(
Powerful though the scene was, and wonderful though the song was, using a Radiohead track is now directorial shorthand for "ok, we know what you're watching doesn't make a lot of sense and a lot of the characters are so flat you don't care about them at all, but listen, and feel moved by this amazing song!"
That said, it was far better than the first season finale.
Pretty boring season with some bad writing. Don't really want another season.
I'm watching tomorrow's episode right now. I will not provide any information to spoil it. All I will say this, it was a deep and heartbreaking episode
Still really enjoying the show, mainly thanks to the terrific cast, and will definitely watch next season but this somehow didn't feel very finale like - adult Natalie's death aside. The writers seem to want to keep straddling the central question about "is this something supernatural or did the plane crash just push all these characters to their limit in a desperate, seemingly hopeless situation?". I hope next season brings some more concrete answers, if not, I suspect Juliette Lewis will be glad she got out when the show was still considered fresh and interesting rather than going the way of shows like The Walking Dead (not that I can see this show being more than maybe 5-7 seasons in length anyway).

Looks like "the wilderness" chose all the good writing staff of this show.
