I'm giving this a 10/10 just because that's called TOTALLY NINJA! but yeah it definitely has its flaws, especially towards the end many things start lacking logic sense. But it is enjoyable indeed. Came for Die Antwoord, stayed for Chappie, he's truly hilarious. Just like the clash between Die Antwoord songs and the fact that the score is by Hans Zimmer. But yeh overall it's more of a 7-/10.
What to say... Scaruffi docet
I have reached Nirvana. When an episode is written entirely by Celentano without third parties, it shows. Masterpiece
Steve acting in here is... just.. wow
Time as an obsession, time you can't remember, time you've lost, time going backwards. Yes, we know, Nolan's cinema has always had clock hands in its compass.
But now, time is up.
Now we are inside a countdown that leads straight to an inevitable horror. So no, it's no longer time to play with the hours, to captivate the public with plot prestige and labyrinthine architectures because now Christopher Nolan has a dirty conscience to explore. A kind of interstellar journey into personal intimate black holes, into which it hurts very much to peek. And so, to accomplish this at best, he gets back to his rigorous and dry times, those of Dunkirk. Because it requires balance, feet on the ground, and dirty hands to tell about Robert Oppenheimer. And he does it with an existential drama in which human horror manifests itself in many ways, not only in the glassy gaze of the inventor of the atomic bomb.
Now personally, I think it has quite too much talking, especially for the first watch you might feel overwhelmed with information, and being 3h long at some point you might stop understanding what's going on. Especially cos after the bomb I thought it was basically over, but it's so not. Not as confusing as Tenet first watch tho, for sure. So it definitely requires more than a watch, and that means it's a good movie. The sound, wow. Acting, top notch. Cillian marry me!
Ps. If you do a Barbenheimer, I'd recommend watching this first. It would not be an easy watch after 3-4 hours of screen time.
Hello, friend. If you didn't watch it yet you're so lucky. I would want to erase my mind and rewatch it to feel again the storm of emotions it gives. Twist after twist. One of the most perfect endings ever made. Don't give up the S2, you'll get it later. Goodbye, friend.
Absolute must watch. Listen to your friends that keep telling you to watch it. Jim&Pam evolution is top notch, Michael is unbelievably annoying in a good way and he gradually grows on you (...thats what she said), 'Dwigt' is just the best. Takes a while to get used to because it's like nothing else around, but gives back a million times eventually. The Office humour couldn't be done today. A pearl.
I'm Italian but I had to enable subtitles. :joy:
That said, wow! Really refreshing and unexpectedly well acted, very natural. Also good directing, the movie flows like a river and you don't feel the two hours. This director is worth keeping an eye on. Don't miss his Rose Island as well.
Remember to stop by for a couple minutes at the end, there's an important post-credit!
Watching this in 2023 with the uprising of Large Language Models (e.g. GPT) has a whole new taste... :slightly_smiling:
The animation style is very unique, it may feel strange and even look bad at first sight, but you'll grow to appreciate it. It's been in the works for 13 years, unfortunately in 2022 I think it's a bit late to the trend compared to other works, with Arcane and especially Spiderverse out, but still it's a piece of art.
The directing and timing and sound design of every scene is top notch. Every movement and every action is crystal clear. They also managed to minimize the usual 'endless talks' of animes, which don't make sense in a realistic time flow, but here it's acceptable and everything flows quite well.
The balance between the match and the flashbacks is well tuned, maybe towards the end you'd want less flashbacks as you get more invested in the match, but still it's fine.
The very ending of the match is amazing - sound, timing, and especially animation. It's so amazing that it makes you think why they didn't use that animation more throughout the movie. Maybe in the late stages they tried to experiment more, but it's so different in style that it almost makes the rest feel boring.
There's no way they could top the first.
...but then they did
Really can't describe this.
Best description I heard so far: "the Odyssey meets The Truman Show meets Synecdoche (2008) meets mother! (2017) meets Under the Silver Lake", and "it is a seemingly formless string of visual metaphors, it's like an album visualizer for crippling anxiety and mommy issues" -meeptop
Guys. I haven't watched any other FF except maybe the first one back in the days. WTH happened in between in production? :joy:
Btw, if you can accept all the crazy, CRAZY nonsense sh¡t that happens, beyond any possible imagination and real-world physics and chances of things to happen, you'll have a good time. FX are just great. It's hard tho. You really have to unplug your brain, way more than Marvel's.:dizzy:
The plot armors here are insane, and it was so funny that even the character at some point realize that they escaped certain death without a scratch, and think they're somehow invincible. This is meta writing. The writers know what they do is nonsense and they enjoy it. Enjoy it too! Appreciate it for what it is, not everything has to be serious :fire:
The first one is good, this is ok for the story as a sequel and the things that happen, but here the EDITING made my eyes hurt. :eyes::gun: There are so many CUTS in the fight scenes that it makes them unwatchable. I get that it's to hide bad scenes but just skip them already idk make it all black it's better. No wonder that John Wick got a huge success by making clean clear fight scenes. It's an action movie goddammit, you have one job!
If you liked this ep, don't miss Mr. Robot :robot:
Changed my life.
Thank me later ❣
(minor context spoilers) Being Ready Player One my favourite movie (I strongly suggest to watch it before this special), and also reading its book right now (where it’s stated in a sentence that a device like Korvo’s one sold million of units after stealing the living-movie idea from the egg hunt), and also being a big fan of Star Wars (even tho the reference is to the worst ep.IX), how could I give less than 10/10 to this classic Solar Opposites episode? Also felt some nice Rick&Morty vibe, with alternate realities and time skips. Chapeau!
I’m so glad they succeeded in keeping it secret, with all the effort that this involved for them. The emotion had no price. Thank you guys.
It was pretty nice but I just can’t stand that they solved the timeline chaos (Ep.2 devastating finale) just like that, in the blink of an eye without explaining anything. Why did Sylvie even do that bombing, after years of planning?! I just hope they’ll explain more.
WTF.
WHAT DID I JUST WATCH?
ALL IN JUST 20 MINUTES??!
This show is the best thing that ever happened in my life.
Plot and writing not the greatest, but GOD those visuals. Astounding.
Good movie, unfortunately ruined by some bad writing here and there, but mostly by the actors' performances (except Castellitto). However, to be seen at least once. Also I suggest you to watch The Terror Live (2013). Yeah I know.
Hype. Hype. Hype. Hype. Hype.
Sh*t indeed, but just turn off your thoughtful mind and enjoy some colorful entertainment
Good, but they should've made it end :unamused:
Superb. But why did Gabriel end up with $64k from Asher + $78k from Frank? Stonks :joy:
I wanted to give this a 10, but after the post-credits scene I had to update my vote.
Ofc the story is trivial and predictable for an adult, but the ideas about the Internet things and Disney characters - especially princesses - were so great!

Boring and predictable, I mean, literally nothing happens. For a moment I thought - maybe inspired by interstellar fantasy - that somehow he was his own father: they both killed the entire crew and went to Neptune alone, and also the black woman on Mars said her parents were killed during the trip, and one of the women on board is a black woman, presumably her mother. That would have been a great plot twist with some kind of time warp paradox, but nope, nothing happens, at all. 6 for the visuals.
I extremely enjoyed this. Very well done, pace, effects, awesomeness. Maybe it’s also because I saw Star Wars IX couple days ago, dunno.
