The Saturn Award for Best Science Fiction Film is one of the Saturn Awards that has been presented annually since 1972 by Academy of Science Fiction, Fantasy & Horror Films to the best film in the science fiction genre of the previous year.

This list includes all nominees and winners for "Best Science Fiction Film" category.

“The only way of discovering the limits of the possible is to venture a little way past them, into the impossible.”
       ― Arthur C. Clarke

A collection of science fiction movies and television shows that attempt some degree of scientific accuracy, with technologies or scenarios that may be nonexistent in today's world but are at least realistic (if only theoretical). That is to say, they don't rely on magic or fantasy (or anything that departs significantly from mainstream theory) to propel their plot.

This is not to say that some of the line-up here don't take a few speculative leaps, but they at least begin from a place grounded in credible research and theory, from where they then develop their more extravagant premises.

Yes, listing time travel films here is a cheat, but I've only included a few, and only those that make some attempt to explain their paradoxes and/or take their temporal consequences seriously.

As nasty and terrifying as Horror movies are in general, they can also be a bit absurd to a point. When a movie comes along and decides to play on that absurdity for laughs, the results are often a thing of beauty... when done right, of course.

In their own way, Horror Comedies can be every bit as satisfying of a watch as standard Horror flicks are, and sometimes, even more so.

For the first 6 movies in the list:

If you're in the mood for a truly quality Horror Comedy, any of the movies in our Top Six will do you right. For our money, Black Sheep and What We Do in the Shadows are probably the funniest of them, but then again they all bring their own unique and humorous vision to the Horror Comedy Sub-Genre.

For the remaining:

Below are the rest of our 30 Best Horror Comedies, and of course, a few Honorable Mentions thrown in for good measure. Keep in mind that no "Best of" list is ever perfect, but merely a solid starting point for anyone looking to watch some great flicks.

The last 6 being "Honorable Mentions".

The J-Film Pow-Wow has been going for nearly four years now and during that time we've reported on the annual Top Ten lists put out by various online and print sources and Chris, Bob, Marc, Matt and Eric have spent our fair share of time scouring and critiquing other people's Top 100 lists of Japanese films. It got to the point where we thought we'd put ourselves out there with our own list, something beyond our monthly Top Ten lists. With that in mind we pooled our collective movie-going experiences and have come up with the J-Film Pow-Wow's own Top 100 Japanese Films list.

Now, before you read on you should keep something in mind. This list was tabulated by all five of the Pow-Wow crew making lists of their own favorite Japanese films - not films we felt were historically important and not films that parroted other lists that have created the present canon of Japanese cinema. Our main concern was to come up with films that we held a real heartfelt love for. Once we drew up our lists we ranked them, assigned a points system and cross referenced all five to come up with this Top 100 list. There are some obvious picks ranking in obvious positions, there are some critically-favoured films in the Japanese film canon that didn't fare as well, and there are a lot of surprises. Those are the films on the list we're all most excited about.

Capturing truth, life, and reality — one movie at a time. The best documentaries allow us to see the world with a fresh set of eyes, from social experiments (Super Size Me) to quirky competitions (The King of Kong) to political exposés (Citizenfour) to the ultimate cat video (Kedi). Now, we take the top movies of the form (each is Certified Fresh from at least 100 critics reviews) for our countdown list of the 100 best-reviewed documentaries ranked by Tomatometer.

The 100+ Most Controversial Films of All-Time: Films always have the ability to anger us, divide us, shock us, disgust us, and more. Usually, films that inspire controversy, outright boycotting, picketing, banning, censorship, or protest have graphic sex, violence, homosexuality, religious, political or race-related themes and content. They usually push the envelope regarding what can be filmed and displayed on the screen, and are considered taboo, "immoral" or "obscene" due to language, drug use, violence and sensuality/nudity or other incendiary elements. Inevitably, controversy helps to publicize these films and fuel the box-office receipts.

Controversy-invoking films may be from almost any genre - documentaries, westerns, erotic-thrillers, dramas, horror, comedy, or animated, and more. Standards for what may be considered shocking, offensive or controversial have changed drastically over many decades. From the earliest silent films, to the gunfights in early 30s gangster films, to the mid-60s countercultural changes when the ratings were modified, to current day bloodbaths, violence in films has always stirred controversy. The voluntary ratings system of the Motion Picture Association of America can influence a film's public showing in a theatre -- an NC-17 rating or an unrated film may often close down a film's screening and lead to commercial failure.
