I was looking forward to this when discovering the synopsis and wasn't disappointed at all. Quite the contrary, I was even pleasantly surprised by this pilot.
Not a fan of the rather young cast but I've seen much worse and guess I can deal with it on the long run.
I'd say the premise was set a bit fast but on the other hand it didn't drag the episode.
Somehow it feels a bit like the TV series Forever (fantastic series, btw) just in a lighthearted format, plus a zombie instead of an immortal. Comedy is rather subtle here but very well used.
The only issue I have is the morgue sidekick or boss of Liv, Ravi. He's just too laid back about this zombie thing and too willing to cover her up and send her off to do police work, risking her cover. While I appreciate a non dragging establishing of characters, some more background about Liv and Ravi would have been necessary to make it more believable here. But that is nitpicking.
Also, Rose McIver looks really hot as a zombie but not nearly as hot as a human. Or maybe I'm just into zombiegirls. shrug
Sidenote: The cover for this show here on trakt looks awful with the "main" characters posting in front of a white screen. Looks absurd and not fitting of the tone the first episode set.
Diogo Morgado was Jesus and now he's Lucifer, seems legit.
i cared more about fish's storyline in this episode, it was more interesting than the other characters'
It's based on an existing comic, so somehow I don't think that's how that went down.
I've seen better plots from DC Animated Movies!
Arrow is a wicked badass show. Love the chase sequence. A classic episode for sure.
oh shut it daniel... arrow might not had a good season but its still good tv and better than many shows out there.
Slow at first but picked up from episode 3. Fabulous series after all.

It deserves a big fat zero for continuity, but the new developments are really exciting nevertheless.
This episode went so fast how was it 40 minutes it looked like 10 minutes and this means it was REALLY GOOD!!
This show's plot and script changes from obvious to random every 5 minutes.
Not disapointed at all. The best season finale they could have done : they've offered a conclusion to all of this season's overarching plots while still managing to introduce new ones I can't wait to see on screen this fall. Liv and Major's relationship is going somewhere, at last !
I was pleasantly surprised by this. The synopsis makes it sound boring but once you watch it, its pretty entertaining.
-Smart boy: We should try again with small objects, and then bacteria, plants..
-Hot girl: Nah, let's try it ourselves!
-Smart boy: Ok!
The power of boner is stronger than reason.
the plot is very mysterious, one of the best original series this year. I thought they are going to pull another lost but surprisingly they handled it pretty good.
although based on a novel series but portraying it on screen, which they have done pretty great.
The show wasn't cancelled, this mini-series resumes the book trilogy in one season only, so it was always planned to have one and only one season.
That's one way to reduce the payroll bill!
Dull, overly studio driven, woodenly acted, and unfaithful to the original Marvel comics, Fantastic Four is a boring, sloppy, corporate mess that will anger even the most basic of comic book fans
Chayton escaping again is too much... Let's just get rid of him and get the military base heist going already.
Love all the characters! A lot of new technology was stuffed into the pilot, but the choreography of the hand gestures was pretty amazing. I look forward to watching more.
USA USA. No thanks. Removing from sickbeard. Only wish I could delete the memory of this show from my head.
Over cheesy lines
Bad accents
Terrible stock footage
Cliche
Usa rammed down my throat
Religion rammed down my throat
Not the best acting, but you can see the cast is having fun with the storyline and their chemistry is electric. Significant Mother has become one of my new favourites.
It was painfully slow at times, but visually, as with all of von Trier's movies, it was stunning.
Unnecessary first half an hour (or the complete first hour) but had visually incredible shots. I really liked the last scene, I swear I can forget the boring part of the entire plot just by watching Melancholia getting closer and closer of earth
A promising start. There are a lot of haters, though, and I think many were expecting it to be The Walking Dead. It's like 90% The Walking Dead, yet the 10% of new style is objectionable to many.
There is a bit of artistic flare here. The original is artistic too, but in the sense of George Romero's "Dawn of the Dead" being artistic: bringing zombie films to a new level. The new series is more about feeling what the characters feel, especially when they see zombies for the first time. For example, the opening shot is upside down, so we feel the confusion of a druggy waking up.
The Walking Dead is filmed in 16mm, to give it that classic, zombie movie look. I haven't been able to find the specs on Fear the Walking Dead, but I'm guessing it's done with high quality HD video cameras.
The acting is criticized by many. The teen girl is often singled out. Personally, I wasn't taken out of the experience at any point. However, one advantage of a zombie series is that any bad actors are going to become zombie food. We might have to wait until next season, though, for the script writers to react to any bad acting.
The pilot was slow. But slow is not necessarily bad. Take Alien (1979), for example. I felt the pace was appropriate and built the tension. I'm looking forward to the next episode.
I'm glad cruella didn't have a "good girl gone bad" background like most villains, she was just bad from the get go. I love it.
This series succesfully shows the exact opposite of blockbuster movies: Create a great story with mediocre special effects and lesser known actors.
The writers behind this show do an amazing job creating one wonderfull Fairy tale adaptation after another. I did not like their previous work, but I think the writing is getting more mature (but they still make some errors that are frustrating.) But mostly they are not afraid to change major aspects of the fairy tales if necessary.
The creaters of this show also worked on 'Lost' and the 'TRON: Legacy' movie.
I really love how Rumpelstiltskin plays the evil maniac, especially during the first season. But there are more noteworthy roles in there, like the evil queen, her mother, Belle, Hook or Peter Pan. Emma Swan is pretty well played, but compared to the extreme characteristics of the fictional characters she is a bit bland.
The things I dislike most are probably some repeated main themes (family feuds/bad parent-child relations) and that they copy the characters of fairy tales a bit too literal from the Disney franchise from time to time.
Overall I think it is on of the best non-comedy shows of the past few years.
PS. I am glad Lady Gaga never replied on the invite to play the Blue Fairy.
Note: This review was written after watching the first 2 seasons.
