This is a lot of fun but some clunkiness in the exposition and storytelling hold it back a bit. Well worth seeing but doesn’t hit the heights of Ready or Not.

Bray Wyatt: Becoming Immortal

The best compliment I can give to the tragic, heartbreaking story of Wyndham Rotunda is that this ends up being a great watch despite of the documentary storytelling being very poor. Imagine if people that knew how to make a great documentary told this story?

Civil War

People seem to be mislabeling this movie as “apolitical” because it doesn’t say “HEY THIS IS TRUMP!” or “LOOK AT THE BLUE STATES” or whatever but overall it is better for it. It shies away from being eye rolly and just presents a terrifying world at war and the people tasked with documenting it. I think the people upset about it “not picking a side” are the ones that think we are living this reality now and this movie is showing how things could be much worse.

The Greatest Hits

I’m usually down for a nice slice of sad romantic cheese with a science-fi bend but this one isn’t it. The cast is fine and the idea is fine but once we got to the concert meet cute I knew we were in trouble.

Girls State

Not terrible but shallow and pat. People over praising this are telling on themselves that they would have voted Cecilia. The Taylor Swift end credit song tells you all you need to know.

Why do these people think they are making a Terence Malick film? Just stick with the action.

Dune: Part Two

It might be that I have no connection to this source material or previous iterations but this ends up being slightly above middle of the road. More enjoyable than the first one with a bunch of silly fluff around it. A series for people that want some extra artistic clout to help wash down their sci-fi junk.

How to Train Your Dragon

Extremely enjoyable without a wasted minute. It’s really impressive, the world building and character stuff nailed in just over 90 minutes with dazzling visuals and amazing score to put it over the top.

Road House

I enjoyed most of the silliness but the effects on the fights really drags this down. The biggest sin the movie commits is it seems to be building up to a completely unhinged Dalton and never fully delivers. Also why do they feel like they need to make shit so complicated?

Late Night with the Devil

I really like the vibe and the performances. I appreciate what they are going for but it didn’t wow me in the end. Maybe the hype killed it a little for me.

The Dynasty: New England Patriots: 1x10 End Game

Overall enjoyable. It’s understandable that they focus mostly on the controversy and sensationalism but they lean way too far in throwing Belichick under the bus. The Hernandez episode is the most egregious.

All they really needed to do was sprinkle a little more highlights around Bill’s strengths to even it out. Instead they use out of context shots of Bill looking at Tom straight faced with brooding music under it to show his absolute undying hatred of Tom. It gets pretty comical.

It ends on a nice note essentially coming down on everyone played their part in the journey. It was a historical one and I’m grateful I got to see it play out in my lifetime.

Ricky Stanicky

I’m infamously known as the champion of comedy, so you all know I’m going to sit my white ass down and watch a movie called Ricky Stanicky. This seems to be a classic throwback to late 90s / early 00s gross out comedies. I can’t tell if those movies can’t be made anymore or if they were always not funny. This has its moments and the cast, especially John Cena, is really going for it but ultimately can’t Stanicky the landing.

Lover, Stalker, Killer

Intriguing story, well told but also seems a bit pat. like it was missing something in the end. Ironically Netflix themselves trained me to be weary of police and detectives and evidence so when they convict this lady without a body it’s kind of bullshit

Imaginary

I never expected this to be good but it is a marvel the levels of bad this movie reaches. Jeff Wadlow needs to be stopped.

Madame Web

You speak of spiders and experiments and Amazons,
You tell tall tales of a film experience that is a failure of disaster levels.
The likes human kind have never seen before.
You dare preach these claims and thump your hyperbole on your virtual soapbox for the whole world to hear and partake
Yet I tell you what these eyes have seen.
These eyes have seen a flying vampire man.
These eyes have seen a curly red haired wig.
These eyes have bear witnessed to a turd in the wind.
Yet I still ask, “IS THIS ALL YOU HAVE?”
“THE BEST YOU COULD MUSTER?”
FOUR WOMEN SLEEPING THROUGH THEIR LINES?!
PERUVIAN MYTHICAL SPIDER-PEOPLE?!
YOU THINK THIS WILL DEFEAT ME?!

I chuckle to myself and whisper “Give me MORE”
I only become more powerful, more immune.
I become INFINITE

I anxiously anticipate Lion blood superpowers in mere months time

American Fiction

The cast is good but this movie really is a chore to get through. A story about the profiting off of stereotypes told through the plot of a tired cliche. The only redeeming quality is the meta aspect of this movie getting a Best Picture nomination because liberals love to make fun of themselves while thinking they’re one of the good ones.

It has its moments that are fun, but it isn’t anywhere close to what the champions of this movie try to describe. Overall it’s in line with one of the early Bruce Willis direct to DVD movies.

Argylle

A fun breezy action movie that almost loses itself under its own weight if it weren’t for the Matthew Vaughn of it all. It’s too long and it has to reckon with its own exposition but there is enough to enjoy.

I’m all for a slow burn, but we have enough slow, contemplative studies on grief and loss. This covers territory that is very familiar to the genre while also feeling kind of ashamed to be a part of it.
