So I just started watching this while knowing next to nothing about it, and I think that I've stumbled upon the sketch comedy equivalent of fucking Inland Empire of all films.
That is awesome. Television needs more things like this.
This isn't just one of the best works of modern anime. Or one of the best works of anime in general. Or of animation in general. Or of television in general. Or even of works in film-based mediums in general. To me, it's one of the best works of art in general and has cemented Kenji Nakamura as one of my favorite directors.
(On a side note, the poster and art for this on Trakt is so misleading it's hilarious)
Actually a damn good parody of K-On! for the most part. This is a series that just loves to amp up it's absurdity at every reasonable opportunity it gets, and it culminates with Episode 11, which is a masterwork of television in my eyes thanks to how off-the-rails it gets. A shame about that American Car Wash scene existing, though.
Have you ever sat in bed, bored, and noticed that the channel that your television set was set on happened to be re-running the premiere of a new series? And then you decided to watch it because, really, you had nothing better to do at 3:00AM aside from sleeping?
Because that's exactly my experience with this. I regretted my decision the second I noticed Daniel Tosh's involvement. Somehow this is even worse than Tosh.0. And like Tosh.0, it's edgy humor for the sake of having edgy humor for the 3edgy5me pre-teens who think that Family Guy isn't pointlessly offensive enough for their High-Class Taste™.
Out of all of the stuff that came out of the incredibly misguided CN Real block, this is easily the best. Granted, that's not exactly saying much, and maybe it's just me being entertained by these teenagers' stupid ideas like riding in a limousine filled with water coming to fruition, but still. It's not good, but it's still not that bad for what's it's worth.
I mean, at least it's not Family Guy, I guess, even if that's not exactly saying much. And at least it actually has it's moments where the humor kind of works. Doesn't mean that this isn't still kind of shit most of the time, but it could be worse.
There's this idea going around that Family Guy used to be a good series. I personally don't know where this started, but this is, at least to me, false: It used to be a kind-of-tolerable-in-comparison-to-what-came-later-but-not-really series. Then it got uncancelled.
Ignoring the Hot Topic fandom and it's wave of LOLSORANDUMB humor that came from GIR, this is actually a damn good series. Really, it's easily one of Nickelodeon's best, making it even more of a shame that it got cancelled (I imagine that the black comedy probably contributed to it, though).
