A Nearly Normal Family

Good series but the story felt drawn out. More episodes = more engagement in Netflix-land.

K-19: The Widowmaker

I thought it was just OK. It's no Das Boot, but the score and some of the visuals were nice. I found the fake Russian accents to be an immersion-breaker. I much prefer movies based on true events to use actors that speak the language of the people who were there. It feels more natural. I think it's also a bit distracting for the audience when they see a big Hollywood actor like Harrison Ford or Liam Neeson, you don't expect them to be Russian.

Narvik

Another great Nordic WW2 movie. Powerful drama which shows the complex struggles of Norwegian people in Narvik during the early stages of the war. Must watch for anyone interested in WW2.

You Were Never Really Here

I found it interesting overall but am not ashamed to admit I also found it a little hard to follow exactly what was going on in places. Maybe it's up to the audience to decide? The details seemed murky. The movie tries to shock you in places and to be different. This is refreshing but may also lose its way in doing so. Regardless of the other plot details it's clearly a story of revenge.

I did not really find it that similar to Taxi Driver or Drive in terms of cinematography or soundtrack, the main similarity of course is the protective male loner type character. As with De Niro and Gosling, Joaquin Phoenix was powerful and convincing.

Damn, this show is really starting to come alive. Great interactions between Saru and Burnham. A quality captain in Jason Issacs’ portrayal of Lorca. Rainn Wilson bringing back a funny, colourful character. Gritty action, fantastic visual effects. The dodgy acting of the first two episodes seems to be gone too? Things are looking good! It’s just a shame the season will end as it’s starting to get interesting.

Dunkirk

Dunkirk maybe isn't as exciting as other events during WW2 but still very interesting and it's well told here.

Absolutely love the stamp Nolan put on it. It doesn't really seem like a Hollywood film, unlike many war movies. You normally have to look at foreign film for something different in this genre but he achieved it here.

Can't wait to re-watch it when the Blu-ray comes out!

Cardboard Gangsters

Not quite on the level of the 'Love/Hate' TV series but a good watch, if a little short. Well cast and acted. Decent humour and a few sobering, graphic moments within the script.

Colossal

Really enjoyed this. A genuinely different and interesting film is surely always a good thing? Surprised it's rated so poorly thus far.

19-2: 2x01 School

Amazingly planned and executed episode. Captured the confusion, pain and loss of the situation perfectly.

Top Gear: 24x03 Episode 3

Mostly good. Nurburgring segment was a little weak (everyone simply moved off the racing line for Schmidt) and the guest segment was just okay. Enjoyed the brief history of the VW Golf.

Great once again. Enjoying the new season.

Top Gear: 24x01 Episode 1

This was FANTASTIC. That piece about the Ferrari made me drool, some of the footage was really great especially the helmet camera. The space theme behind the Kazakhstan segment gave me a few goosebumps as well!

La La Land

I liked it, girlfriend hated it. I thought it would be the opposite. Refreshingly different would be my main opinion on it. Now I'm off to question my sexuality.

The Grand Tour: 1x03 Opera, Art and Donuts

I find it's gotten worse since the first episode. The 3 guys still have great chemistry but it seems like they're just using a big budget to goof around more than ever, massaging their ego's and rambling on about Britain.

Episode two was pretty bad. It would be nice to actually get some proper opinion and analysis of the cars being driven. Many scenes seem to take place outside the car. I don't expect 5th Gear levels of information but dedicate at least a few minutes to this, having a look at road cars and a bit less time destroying things!

Also, what's is the deal with the celebrity introductions? Is the same joke still funny 10 times later? Rant over :)

The Man in the High Castle: 1x01 The New World

Fairly average pilot.. a bit far-fetched. None of the actors speak German or Japanese, which kind of kills the realism (some of the soldiers are supposed to be American Nazi's, which is fair enough).

I might come back to it eventually.

The Walking Dead

[2] Freaking awesome! Total suspense, great drama; excellent interplay between human beings in apocalyptic circumstances. Watching social norms struggle under the pressure, some surviving, others discarded... the break down of social interaction into an ugly and tense confrontations, with some instances of questionable heroism... brilliant. Brilliant.
