I didnt think it was a good choice to start right from the "end" but still i guess its no fairy tale.
I know this its a sad movie but still i cant help thinking a much better job coulve been done to make it more heartfelt.
THe acting was nothing lees than mediocre from both main characters, sometimes I felt that they were expressing emotions differently from what the context or speech implicates. The soundtrack its well picked but still its nothing out of the ordinary...a few calm songs and a few love songs and some could'nt really "go with the flow" of what was going on.
As for the writing I found some of the dialogues to be sometimes uncomfortable and innapropriate, and some repetitive things that don't add nothing to the story, actually found Myron to be more interesting than either one of the main characters. Sure it get a few tears out of you, even more if you're more sensitive or can relate to this, but still what makes it sad is more the subject then how it is represented.
With all things in a "mediocre" level i couldnt give it more or less than a mediocre rate.
PS:Found really cute and original the way Abbie "claimed" Sam, but did not check the veracity of this.
Personal comment:
I got to say as someone in his freshman year in college i can relate so much with these emotions and drama, that were put in such a non-childish way. Adolescence is a hard time not more to ourselves but to the ones that have to put up with us :). This was the kind off movie that if you get connected with, it will toy with your emotions as much as it did with mines. We have so much to be gratefull and althought it might sometimes seem this is a journey we do alone, if we look behind we'll see that the ones that love us the most are the ones pushing us up this path and into our lives, they are the ones that build us.
Opinion:
This was the first work i've seen from Greta Gerwig and i have to applaud to her. Very well written all the questions that were coming along got their answer and were not simply given, it has a way to pull you into Lady Bird's dramas and experiences, it approachs more areas like drinking and smoking and virginity in a less significant but still very important way that a lot of movies show has the "breakthrough" of adolescense/young adult.
Saoirse Ronan was absolutly a great pick for this role and the parents were on point when it came to that whole good parent bad parent situation. And the landscape shots were very well captured that really got a feeling of wormth that we get from our hometown.
After watching all im thinking to myself is that i am not a lady bird, but a mister bird, and im so glad that i learned how to fly out of the nest, because althought it allows me to explore the world it also makes me want to return home.
Theres so much about this movie that i just dont know where to start and ill probably forget a couple things worth mentioning.
At first when i heard about "Call me by your name" i thought it was just "Moonlight" with different characters and background, but man its so much beautifull. Just that final speech from the father at the end makes it worth to watch this movie and Timothée's feelings shown so well by the fireplace will put you in his shoes and if youre looking at reviews before deciding to watch it or not let me stop you right there and tell you to go watch it, just the title triggers curiosity and when this gets satisfied it just warms you inside.
The acting is far more better than just supberb, and the soundtracks... it gave me the feeling that these words in the lyrics where created just so they could build this amazing soundtrack.
One thing that made me scratch my back at first was the lack of context, it got me thinking if i missed something because i couldnt understand at first who was oliver if a friend or if that was a lodging but then next thing i know i was held captive by their relationship and how the all environment around them formed a gorgeus scenario to build a great romance.
I do not recommend watching if youre the kind of person that doesent want feelings coming at you like bullets from a minigun.
