Great premise, characters, story, sound design, and direction. One of my new favorite end of the world movies. 9/10.
I love reading all the fragile white men (I am a white man) cry because a black character says something negative about white people, or a white woman is portrayed as a bit racist. These characters were very true to life, and any callout of race is now “woke”. What about the thousands of movies from 1900 till now that portray white characters as black saviors, or black people as helpless/illiterate/etc. I guess those are fine because it doesn’t hurt your feelings and makes you feel good. Maybe it’s okay to show how black people feel without demonizing them? Maybe you will never understand what’s it’s like to be black in America, especially when you don’t believe there is even real racism effecting many parts of black of America to this day. If being “woke” means you can empathize with the experience of others without crying about yourself then I’ll be woke. “White” is a complete bullshit race anyway. We are from different ethnicities (Irish, Italian, German, English, Polish, etc.) Many of which groups were not even considered white until the 20th century. Even Hispanic is becoming part of the “white” in group. The only people who will never be white are black people. Stop crying that “white” people are being attacked.
This documentary is incredibly sad, but is more important for people to watch than ever. Most of the national media cover the Hamas attack on Israel (2023 festival attack) as a one sided terrorist attack. These people deal with human rights abuses every single day, including non-provoked bombings from Israel. Zionists and right-wing western media have used the shield calling everyone anti-semitic who supports Palestinian liberation for far too long. This also does not mean I don’t have empathy for the Israeli people killed in the festival bombing. Both things can be true. The US and Britain are just as much to blame for this horrific situation as Israel. The only path to peace is for the US to push Israel to stop the apartheid asap. If that means sanctions, stopping lethal and non-lethal aid, etc, than it must be done.
The documentary is very well done, go support Abby Martin and fight for peace!
Really well done. Been a while since Netflix dropped such a high quality movie. Easy 9/10.
Truly amazing show! I just binge rewatched it all for the first time since watching when it released. There is definitely something to be said for the enjoyment being increased when binge watching something like this. Nukky Thompson is one of my favorite characters of all time, and I have to put the show as my number 1 as well. The only downside to Boardwalk Empire is it felt like it was cut short, like way too short. Season’s 1-3 are absolutely goated, season 4 & 5 were good but felt like a different show almost. The final season was even cut down to 8 episodes which is so sad. There was an insane amount of content and story telling left to be done but instead they jumped ahead 15+ years from season 4 to 5. This is one of the rare shows that could have easily gone 10 seasons but everyone wants to start new projects, etc. I only wish the would have continued the path of growing more storylines with all the different mobsters, politicians, etc. I don’t think I will ever see a show this well made again in my lifetime. I cannot wait until my kids are old enough so I can rewatch it with them as well. Hats off to HBO for another amazing series, they have the best series of all time (Oz, The Wire, The Sopranos, Entourage, GoT, Big Love, True Blood, The Leftovers, Treme, Succession, and many more). If you have not watch all of them I highly encourage it!
Extremely well done and important documentary. Rest in Power Trayvon <3
Please IGNORE all the pretentious reviewers say “like omg, the original was so wonderful and this just sucks”. It’s the most common annoying trope for no life’s to say how bad a remake is compared to the the original. They feel a sense of loyalty which I get but unless it’s my favorite show of all time I always Judge something on its own merrits. The same people reviewed the US version of The Office the same way, which as any sane person knows is insane. They are very different animals and good for very different reasons.
I loved this adaption of Utopia and is one of the best shows in 2020. Cusak makes a great
Villain, Dwight from The Office was awesome, and the story is surprisingly relatable to the current Covid situation. It is perfectly paced, me and my wife could not get enough.
Really enjoyed this one. Suspense all the way through. More focus on a family trying to survive the end of the world than just the end of the world.
