Pretty ok fantasy movie if you ask me! Nothing too special but it’s a fun watch. Looks great too during the parts that aren’t so dark you quite literally can’t see a single thing.

Avatar: The Last Airbender

I guess the bending looks better than the movie… but that’s as much good as I can say about this. Let Avatar be the ultimate example of why animation should be a respected form of media and that not every animation needs a live action.

(Not finished yet but) Park Eun-Bin really is endlessly charming in every role she plays.

The Witcher: Blood Origin

This felt too short for all the things they wanted to do. If this had been longer they could have dived into the world and all it’s lore better, leaving less questions and confusion. Besides that I could not for the life of me figure out what they we’re trying to convey through the costumes, hair, makeup and architecture. Felt like a missed storytelling opportunity. (Or I just didn’t get it)

I am curious, somewhat unrelated, what other fantasy media people have consumed who seem to be complaining about ‘wokeness’ because this did not feel particularly ‘woke’ to me compared to other general fantasy media from over the last few decades.

Either way, I was fairly entertained throughout the 4 episodes so not all bad.

First Kill

This was fun and doesn’t deserve all the unnecessary criticism it’s getting. I mean I’m assuming most of us here have seen Riverdale and many of Netflix their other teen drama’s. We knew exactly the quality that we were signing up for. I do have to admit it disappointed me a little in it’s lack of romance and developing the actual relationship between Cal and Juliette but other than that I really don’t understand why people are so insistent on hating this.

While the show is good, the fact that Pamela didn’t have a say and did not sign off on this series (which I only read about after already finishing the show) really leaves a bad taste in my mouth. Especially since a big theme in this story is how she kept being exploited. Really just doesn’t sit right with me that this show would be made without her having a say.

(Just adding that I only found out about this AFTER I had already finished the show)

The plot kept me interested throughout the whole movie, with a good twist, the fighting was decent and I was very charmed by Miku Martineau her performance. And it’s small things that make me love it: the way Japanese characters speak Japanese to each other (I hate when movies make non native English speaking characters talk English to each other) how you hear only Japanese music in this movie set in Japan or how people actually run out of ammo frequently while shooting their guns. I think it’s a very well done movie over all.

It also gave me a little bit of a Cyberpunk 2077 vibe but I’m not sure if that’s just cause of the neon lights, the protagonist with a time limit cause they’re dying thanks to a mission gone wrong, the powerful Japanese as the antagonist or because there’s someone named V. Also fun but unrelated: BAND-MAID are in this!! My favorite rock band!!!

This is a movie I wish I had seen when I was 16. Feminism, intersectional feminism, white privilege, feminists shaming other feminists for not being feminist enough, how institutions (like a school) still actively uphold the patriarchy and more. A lot gets discussed and I have yet to see a movie about feminism that mentions all these different sides of it.

Because there’s so much to talk about the movie can feel a little rushed, or like the topics aren’t explored in dept enough. Some parts are even a little cheesy but hey, it’s still a teen high school movie. I do genuinely hope this is a movie that reaches lots of young girls to inspire them and call them to action.

Also would like to add that as a feminist punk myself it was amazing seeing so many references to the Riot Grrrl movement and hearing a lot of the music too!!! And they got The Linda Lindas to play??? Yes!!!!

Charlie's Angels

Telling that almost all of the bad reviews of this are written by men. Why is every movie about strong women, doing the things and have the cringy dialogue every mission impossible movie has, suddenly a ‘feminist’ movie? Is it a great movie? No, probably not. But it’s fun and if we can all admit that it’s just as decent as a lot of action movies with a male protagonist it will save everyone a lot of time and energy.

Horse Girl

This movie looks stunning but I can't figure out for the life of me what I just watched. The first part of the movie has a very slow build (and I actually turned it off and then watched the rest of it a week later) and then the last 30 minutes are just insane. You're left wondering if the things that happen to her are real or if she's having trouble with her mental health. I would have liked an actual answer to that but I don't feel like you get it.

The Half of It

I've seen some super mixed reviews on this and that kinda bums me out. I loved this movie and I've been thinking about it all day. Leah Lewis does a great job playing Ellie and I really liked her character. I do feel like this shouldn't really be labeled as romance, it's much more about friendship and acceptance.

Tiger King: Murder, Mayhem and Madness
Self Made: Inspired by the Life of Madam C.J. Walker

Wonderful from start to finish. It's an amazing story that definitely deserves (and should) be told and Octavia Spencer is phenomenal as always. The only thing I didn't love were some of the modern music choices but everything else is superb.

Love Wedding Repeat

Properly funny if you ask me. The characters are interesting and somewhat relatable. It's not a masterpiece but worth the watch.

Bombshell

The acting in this is fantastic and I was intrigued by the story. The timeline in it was a bit hard to follow for me and at some points it lost my attention a bit. Not a bad movie though, and would recommend watching it.

The Witcher

I can’t seem to figure out if I love this or hate this. That being said, it made me laugh, the sword fighting isn’t only very well choreographed but also brilliantly shot, and it’s not as confusing as some people claim it is. To be completely honest I think I was just distracted by Henry Cavill most of the time.

Knives Out

A fantastic movie. Made the whole theater laugh while also keeping everyone on the edge of their seat. Can’t wait to watch it again.

Red Sparrow

Not a horrible movie, but definitely not a good one. The first half or so was kinda hard to get through and the other half was kinda hard to follow. Besides that the poor accents are a real turn off. Overall I didn’t have a terrible time, but won’t watch it again.

(And if you’re sensitive to torture scenes, like myself, maybe don’t watch it in a theater.)

Everything Sucks!

I fairly enjoyed this show. It was very different from what I expected. It did however kind of feel like Netflix tries to recycle the idea of another 80’s, Strangers Things inspired group of kids. But it’s fun and I didn’t mind it too much, it’s worth the watch. And with the way this ended it better get a second season!

Queer Eye

I have actually fallen in love with this show and the fab 5. Besides giving amazing makeovers to not only their wardrobes, their haircuts and their homes, they also dig deeper into why someone isn't taking care of themselves and their lives. They care so much and boost every guy his confidence. A real feel good kind of show that get's pretty emotional almost every episode. I haven't watched the original, but will definitely be checking that out once I've finished this!

A Christmas Prince

This is one of those movies that is filled with cliches. At times you know exactly what cheesy line will follow. Either way, It’s fairly enjoyable but definitely far from good. If you enjoy movies like The Princess Diaries and Monte Carlo you’ll most likely enjoy this too!

I've always had a deep respect for Gaga, and after her last record it has grown even deeper. This documentary is beautiful and shows a very vulnerable side of her. Would definitely recommend people to watch this.

Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets

This was quite the disappointment. It was a weak story, unsympathetic main characters and a completely weird and unnecessary romantic storyline. Looks fantastic, but that's literally it.
