Having watched quite a lot of found footage films and liking the genre as a whole I have never once touched PA. In part due to the hype but also because it always looked quite boring. The movie's initial notoriety certainly influenced my viewing experience so I was more so impressed at the restraint they showed with it rather than finding it particularly scary but was ultimately also disappointed at how it all played out (are you really just going to stick to sleeping in the same bed with no additional precautions or even locking the doors..? the "mythology" was also terribly under baked.). Still, for FF this was serviceable and very representative of the formula :smile:...
For me this turned out to be somewhat of a guilty pleasure. While the general logic and setup is somewhat flawed (alongside the weird interaction of the "Enemies of Humanity" threat), the actual manipulation and deductions making up the runtime are quite fun and you get the killer POV for most of these. Unfortunately this ends just after introducing a major point of conflict for Nana so you'll most likely have to read the manga for a proper resolution. RIP Michiru - hard to phantom why they would even leave someone with her powers on the island.
Kinda weird and meh arc with a WTF ending... Hoping they did not forget about the answer arcs...
This is basically the same as Yamishibai except that it has "mysterious" Ninjas added who take care of the entities. There is a minuscule attempt made to connect them but really they just take away from the already short runtime making what would have been lame episodes of the main show even worse.
AAAAnd they doubled down on the botched ending... I'm not in the loop with the series production but you better hope that there is a good excuse for them having to resolve the story like this. I don't mind that they did what they did here but it doesn't work if you play this after last weeks episode. The trajectory for this was all wrong and it's missing a lot of in between! Kinda hard to fall for the manipulative writing when you have to doubt what is being presented to you. And Sam growing old was not only cheesy pandering but a huge joke that had me laughing because of the unbelievably bad makeup.
Rushing an ending for a show after 15 years is NOT appreciated.
I'm sorry: WHAAAAT? This was awful. Not that Supernatural ever was very coherent but this was a rushed, sloppy and frankly a very anticlimatic conclusion to their ordeal... they even had to pull a "and-here-is-how-we-dun-it" to "explain" this mess.
Sam & Dean can apparently take a massive beating from fists powered by such godly energy that when absorbed is enough to transfer the powers over to Jack (who needs build up when you can just give him more OP powers...). Most "powerlevels" were also disregarded for this like Chuck's omniscience and featuring Amara, Death/Lucifer etc.. . And no time for Cas? I know there is another one coming but this had a freaking montage at the end...
Depending on what you expect out of Season 2 of Scare Pewdiepie this might be a "OKish" watch but ultimately I wasn't really that engaged in it. They certainly surprised me with how visceral they started out the game but the rest of the movie didn't really match that. It was setup as the "ultimate" escape room experience but the main guy certainly didn't handle this like a VLOGger would nor were there really any "puzzles" justifying that title. I also noticed the same as @catsy did; certain parts felt extremely stealth game-esque rather than cinematic. There also happens some stupid "horror" movie stuff which sealed the "meh" experience for me (but most of that can be explained away by the twist). That twist they're able to hide quite well imho since it's layered but it also opens the movie up for even more plotholes... it's frankly just not believable that they managed to trick him with all those FX without him noticing that it's all bullsh*t.
If it weren't for MAPPA at helm I would have dropped this like three times already... At least the show doesn't take it's fake drama serious either. An upcoming tournament arc and one-note upperclassmen getting introduced doesn't really get me any more excited really.
This was a big miss as a sequel... as established early on in the movie the character of "Borat" is pretty much dead as he is part of pop culture now so he can't do the same stunts as before. To work around this issue we are instead introduced to his daughter who travels with him while Sacha is mostly going around in throw-away disguises akin to his recent "Who is America?" show (which was already plagued by similar issues). Unfortunately they did very little to help ground this in reality. Borat as a journalist had a reason to travel around and have a camera on where as in the sequel it feels quite unauthentic and often scripted. The "charm" Borat had is also mostly absent as he was mostly just in narritive driven scenes (making the Giuliani scene the "climax" AND releasing the movie with this deliberate timing only did it a big disservice imho). Did I chuckle in some scenes? Sure... but as a complete package it was just really disappointing and hollow.
I hope this puts a lid on the pacing oddities this show has because an hour long exposition episode is and should not be normal... most of what is shown was already hinted at previously so I'm sure they could have done without this...

Dull and predictable from the setting and title alone... the only semi decent part was their fusion. The retro setting and art didn't really click either.
Also truly progressive by having a black and hispanic girl as the leads but the resident campus rapist is still the good ol' white jock...
Ultra low-budget snooze fest where the title is literary the movie. Might do something for you if you're claustrophobic but for me they failed quite hard at making the setting and creature threatening (looped crawling ambient sounds do not help) nor does it's "plot" hold up... I mean they are there to save the LAST fertile woman which everyone seems to neglect /nice helping her by shooting her/ and funnily enough they're just 2 miles from a base but unlike those guys they do not know how to kill the monster :rofl:??? RIP humanity.
This musical "tribute" to manly power fantasies is top tier cringe, bland and ultimately pointless in it's resolution. Surprisingly this is what they wanted going by the "commentary" of Mark Duplass after the episode...
Kinda pointless OVAs with an uninteresting story and heaps of redundant info making this somehow a two parter.
I don't think it's all bad but the movie is quite generic (based on a 2012 comic book) and it pretty much banks on it's "twist" reveal (or the extent of it anyways) which ended up being quite lackluster the foreshadowing is there since the start and it added nothing on top of it. With the ending this got it also opened itself up for plenty of lazy writing moments and plotholes (-1).
This is not really a good spoof of Miss Marple nor very funny but since it's so short it can suffice to fill some time. Plenty of guest appearances from the NBC comedy/SNL camp which should be indicative of whats going on.
Not for me definitely. The breakneck pacing has little regard for characters or a proper plot (so things must be convenient) and in this format more akin to something on SyFy or CBS rather than the ""HBO prime time slot""...
Underlying the FX sample pack with a Gil Scott-Heron song is just tone deaf and quite try hard imho (it didn't fit the scene nor the theme). George served his part as a plot device too apparently so let's commemorate it with killing him off...
Wasn't eager to start this after having seen all the fake shilling on it's IMDb page (most of which - including the negative ones - has now been removed ???) and am actually still unsure about this 70 minutes later. I can't say that I'm not intrigued but found the change of pace towards the end rather unexpected for something branding itself with Lovecraft (I mean it's at least there in the creature design).
I don't feel like I'm necessarily in competent hands because this had very little substance so far. I'm going to be very cynical about what I've seen: Yes, racism bad (queue examples), black culture so rich (queue overlong concert scene AND play modern day trap music), car chases are exciting (let's do two of them with the first one resulting in a quite illogical conclusion which everyone ignores) and let's not forget we are here for some monsters (which came with the usual horror logic trappings)... Having now looked at the trailer I know even less of it's intended direction - just that this is certainly not the 10:star: material some have people claimed this as :person_bowing:.
Are they out of ideas maybe or is the season order just setup this way? These episodes have all been pseudo psychology ones with a tendency to become more goofy. Not a good sign.
Often quite fun with likable characters but this could have easily shaved off some of the concert scenes to flesh this out a bit more.
I found the first half of this to be somewhat decent with a setting far away from dark underwater labs, more time spent on establishing characters and somewhat interesting pseudo-science (+some gym bros playing "Depth" IRL)... but as things tend to go the usual dumb stuff starts to piles on... Not quire the redemption it could have been. (And not that I spent to much time thinking about it but there are probably quite a few plotholes in this too.)
It's decent and Natalia Dyer does a good job in the lead role but it doesn't really have anything that makes it stand out. These kinds of coming-of-age stories exist in multitudes.
Imho this had too much "normalized sex" in it. If she was really brought up firmly catholic she would have behaved a lot more reluctantly in many of the scenes. Same goes for other people in the camp; eg. giving head in places where they can easily be spotted or the Father jacking-off without any precautions..?
Another big miss for me to have her "adult life-guidance scene" in lesbian bar... I'd assume a catholic camp in this period would be far away from a place like this, nor would there be such a big local scene... felt more like forced progressiveness.
Also the hairy arms on Wolfgang Novogratz... so unnaturally fake that I have no idea what the thought process was. Were they afraid it wouldn't show in the light?

It's by no means something original or a masterpiece but to me it was serviceable with a good twist to kick it off, a fair amount of kills, some comedic elements and themed around the Satanic Panic which is right up my ally...
Pretty much agree with @randompadley except that the last 20-30 minutes weren't much more exciting either.
The movie seems to have been written around one core idea but failed to even setup a believable "celebratory weekend get-away" to make up the runtime. Add in tons of classic facepalm horror moments and shitty characters et voilà.
I'd honestly have skipped this seeing who directed it but with the other poster variant it made it appear like there might be something cool going on (with the flipped perspective of the house and the figure in the sky). :thumbsdown:
And while I don't need a resolution to a movie necessarily the reveal that it's just a random stranger doing this only left me with more questions in how this all played out. Kinda hard to believe this setup over a weekend and I doubt the MO should just have been that he likes watching and then killing strangers. I mean he rents the place beforehand to set it all up so just how many places could he possible have "sliced up" by this method... His plan was also far from foolproof. They could have easily have made it away (as shown by the stupid chase scene in the forest)... there is also evidence on their phones, etc. so why even bother removing all the cameras :rolling_eyes:.
Way to on the nose imho as I could take this seriously... especially when paired with this set of 5.
I know it's supposed to be funny but it correlates so much with reality that it becomes bleak :astonished:.
Weird wanting the antagonist to be a nazi and slapping on every racist symbol they can think on his body but he never uses the N* word... Anyhow, not too impressed with the general setup BUT a teenage girl wearing a cute knitted hat with animal ears being absolutely demented hell yeah :fire:!
