[7.6/10] I liked the A-story on this one for its sheer comic madness. Rick and Morty is particularly adept at taking broad genre tropes like the Terminator-esque time travel tale, and take it to insane extremes. Filtering that kind of story through a planet of space snakes was especially amusing (in the same vein as fellow Adult Swim stablemate Robot Chicken’s parody of Law and Order using only chickens). Little touches like the time cops coming back, or Snake-braham lincoln were particularly enjoyable. There’s not much to this one, beyond some time-dilating shenanigans, but it was still roundly enjoyable.

Still, my favorite part of the episode was Jerry’s B-story. The throughline of him trying to prove himself as capable and manly and not needing to be saved by Rick works as a character motivation for him. And the notion of him being slightly lighter than air, while also being weighed down by his shoes, is an appropriately bonkers problem for him to have to tackle. The increasingly absurd lengths he goes to not to ask for help, the increasingly ridiculous issues he faces as part of this particular predicament, and the fact that he still injures himself putting up holiday lights regardless, all cracked me up. This is an all-time Jerry story.

Overall, this is mostly candy for the mind rather than the deeper or more overtly clever stuff that this show is capable of, but I’m not complaining!
