That was entirely possible , it may've had trojan , which collects data sends it to server , which could've been done using Javascript/AJAX , having remote URL , and they could get IP from it.It's difficult to get correct IP location , but you still could get correct(almost) info from ISP.

WTF... this and other nonsense like that rubs me all the wrong way and really puts me off. Hope they can get more interesting beside that as well, its not the greatest show by any measure.
