[6.1/10] Well, The League’s best (if not necessarily good) season yet goes out not with a bang, but with a whimper. As is often the case, the only really worthwhile storyline in this one is the Kevin/Jenny one. While the idea of betting on a fantasy football game with the stakes being the conception of a child is pretty deranged, it’s downright sweet by this show’s standards, and so seeing Kevin and Jenny work so hard to keep the season valid in order to have their next kid is at least a little endearing. The reveal that Kevin already “won” the bet is a sweet moment, and him not being able to enjoy as much since Taco is so gracious about it is a good beat, but the whole swimming after the Viking Funeral Boat bit is dumb.

The rest of the episode is pretty meh. Everything with Ruxin is the pits, particularly him chasing after the real life Shiva in recovering from his stroke. Andre having to deal with Rafi as his co-manager is worth a couple of laughs, but it’s not as good as some other Rafi outings. And the loony stuff like Jenny pretending to be Ruxin’s “real wife” or Pete getting branded with the sacko, or Taco’s whole “kill The League and start again” thing have that dumb/contrived vibe that generally puts me off the show. (Oh, and after a fairly restrained season, we get another NFL player cameo in the form of Matt Forte, once again proving that outside of Shaq and Peyton Manning, most athletes should stay out of comedy.)

Overall, this season had some of The League’s best gems, and offered enough to keep me watching, but it’s hit to miss ratio is still pretty rough, with this episode sending things out on a sour note.
