I don't want to overanalyze the episode. It deals with something that is a serious personal issue for the one involved. By looking at it from the funny side it makes it more approachable I'd say. At the time no one could have guessed that Barclay would become a recurring character. I mean, we have seen others come in and never be seen again. Dwight Schulz was perfect for the role. And I would like to add that Beverly looked gorgeous in that dress. That is the fan in me speaking.
