This episode gets very sad as Scully is coming to terms in her hospital bed with potential death by reestablishing her faith. Mulder however, does find a chip that ends up curing Scully. It’s a relief even though we know that Scully isn't going to die. It's heart wrenching to see Mulder cry over the forthcoming death of his friend. It never happens but it's touching anyway. In the meantime, we find out that the recovered alien is actually a fake. The Cigarette Smoking man is shot and killed but his body is not found. Mulder fingers Chief Blevins as the mole and Blevins is then assassinated by the Syndicate. Mulder meets with Samantha, arranged by the CSM who apparently adopted Samantha. We really don't know if it is truly Samantha or not.
