[7.6/10] I am generally a fan of Louise episodes. While it’s been proven that contrary to her defiant, combative nature, she cares about a lot of things, I’m still a sucker for anytime the tough little kid shows her softer side. An episode where she’s super proud of her association with her on-screen hero, but learns from his mistake and feels bad for keeping Rudy out of the spotlight, is right up my alley.

It’s also just a good Belcher family episode in general. Bob leaving the Hawk actor several “ranting messages,” Linda obsessing over Yuki’s baby, Tina’s usual reaction to lying, and Gene’s “not so tight five” were all great bits even apart from the main story. The Wagstaff kids were a laugh riot in their reactions to Rudy’s broken arm (Jocelyn’s stupidity continues to tickle my funny bone), and the head of the “Chicklets” fan club was an amusing addition as well.

There’s also some good story construction, with Louise’s show-off motivations firmly established, and the director’s cut of the film making for a good macguffin, with stakes in the form of the $1,000 check the kids forged. The parallel with the Hawk actor not wanting to be overshadowed by a one-scene wonder performer, and Louise feeling the same about the attention Rudy got from his cast is really well done too.

Overall, this is a nicely built episode that focuses on character growth and understanding in Louise, something that’s almost always a good tack for Bob’s Burgers.
