Maybe the best directed season so far (which is saying something in such an intricately put-together visual splendor of a show like this), and the jokes and Rachel Brosnahan’s delivery are still killers. But man, the Weissman parents are such drags this year. It serves a purpose in the season’s tail end where they and Midge’s storyline dovetail thematically, confronting their own myopia and privilege in order to either carve out a new path forwards or face a consequence from it. But while the season is going on, they make some of the middle parts almost a screeching mess. The Lenny Bruce episode and the finale are pretty great though, ending it better than Season 2 at least (even if I still prefer that season). MVPs: Luke Kirby, who makes his smoldering and poignant will-they-won’t-they episode with Midge a season highlight, and Alex Borstein, whose sneakily background storyline gives way to many devastating moments in the finale.
