The concept comes from an 88 world famous book by a Nobel prize nominee that's compulsory reading in college and the original Snowpiercer director just won like 3 Oscars so no, there is nothing surprising about it really.
@zuretear I actually got bored of The Expanse and Tales from the Loop. They both started off good but quickly got boring and repetitive.
@zuretear, I want to make two points: 1) I don't like painting Scifi with the same brush. I love SW and ST AND SG. I like Killjoys, Dr.Who, and the Expense....Scifi an umbrella genre and there is much that it covers and I want to love it all. 2) This scifi is from a story written in the late 1930s. It has survived throughout Scifi history, like Shakespeare in literature or in theater. This story should be full of dated ...archaic themes, but instead each generation has found this simple story more relevant and poignant to our times. I image, the story may have begin written as a warning of what the future may bring. However, now, 90 years later, it's a social commentary on where we are now...not 5 mins into the future, but a metaphor of where we are presently....It's Black Mirror, and its the most awesome version I've watched on screen so far. Try it again.
