[7.1/10] Perfectly solid episode. Nothing overwhelming, but solid.

I like the intersection of two of the three stories. David wetting the bed and Moira getting into social media make for a fun comedic inflection point when she accidentally broadcasts her son’s accident to the world. But it’s fun to see Moira initially disdaining the pull of social media, only to fall deep into that well when she gets the personal validation of it. Her reluctance to cut back despite not knowing how to use the technology, and people reminding her of her colorful descriptions of social media are both good laughs.

There’s fewer laughs in the bed-wetting story, but more sweetness. David and Patrick have a good dynamic, and Patrick trying to reassure David that it’s no big deal while David is utterly modified with himself gets some good chuckles. The reveal that David only does this when he’s very excited about something is an endearing explanation, as is Patrick revealing his mouthguard and “nose thing” to try to make David feel better. It’s a broad concept, but a funny one.

I have mixed feelings about the Johnny/Stevie story here. On the one hand, the two of them plus ROland accidentally crashing a funeral that they thought was an open house for another motel was the pits. Again, any Roland-heavy bit of humor is almost always DOA. But I like the human element when Stevie reveals that she may be ready to go out and explore the world and may not want to commit to franchising Rosebud. Johnny’s reaction is supportive but clearly kind of wistful about it. It’s nice notes for both of them.

Overall, this one doesn’t bowl you over with big laughs or truly touching moments, but it’s got a low-level sweetness and smiles throughout, which is more than enough.
