As I watch more of this version I think it's really just fine. But it lacks personality in the animation and art direction, it's like every scene is devoid of meaning or intent, and the storyboard is pretty uninteresting. Even the soundtrack doesn't really speak. I guess I just think that 99 version is a masterpiece.
