Regarding the other story: While I generally think that the explanation for the burn is stupid, it was kind of obvious what set him off.
Why doesn't anyone besides Burnham have rank insignia in the final scene?
Final point: Roddenberry would probably turn in his grave, his widow pointed out that the War in DS9 was opposite to her late husbands vision. I doubt he would appreciate being cited in the final episode of a Star Trek Season featuring a dystopia...
