Ozark: Season 4

4x06 Sangre Sobre Todo

I thought this was a very good episode but then I took a moment to reflect on its title, which translates as “Blood (family) over all,” as discussed by Omar and Javier, and realized how that theme was explored not just in the conversation between them that gave rise to the title but through every character, and now think it’s actually a great episode, not just a very good one.

In addition to Omar and Javi, there was:

The family of Darlene, Wyatt, and Zeke, with Wyatt choosing between blood (Ruth) and love (Darlene).

The family of Frank and Frank Jr, with the younger trying to find his place with, or against, the senior but ultimately coming around to the idea of seeking revenge for him when the family blood is spilled.

The family of Wendy, Marty, and Jonah and the very complicated dynamic that’s developed between them as Wendy tries to sabotage Jonah to pull him closer.

The family of Wendy and her father and Ben.

I love how this show, exploring the concept of family over everything, is setting up a conclusion that promises to have blood over everything.
