Maybe it’s the setting, maybe it’s the genre, but it doesn’t grab me in the way that PTA’s masterpieces tend to do. There’s a lot to appreciate: it’s hard to find a mistake in the acting or directing, I love how they crank up the sound effects when this character is getting annoyed, it does take risks. I like how it plays with the idea of power dynamics in relationships, which maybe is not as entertaining as Gone Girl, but it’s certainly more substantive. Still, I’m kinda left wanting more. A little more drama perhaps, as it’s a little too quiet and reserved for my liking. Subtlety is a good thing, but I wish it had a few more scenes that popped.
