The Good Doctor: Season 4

4x10 Decrypt

As someone who works in IT, it's really disappointing to see a show that is based on realism, fail so miserably.

There are multiple issues all over the episode. For one, a ransomware attack is IMPOSSIBLE to decrypt. It has never been done in the history of the internet. Multi-Million dollars have been hacked, and they all paid. It's would take millions of years, so when Lea says "I can decrypt it" alone, it just frustrates me. And also, how does a offline system even get hacked?!

Lea also claims to be an "expert", but hasn't done a single backup. Backups are always stored externally and offline, they would just lose the data between the last backup and the attack. They wouldn't loose any of the software for the Machines Lea mentioned.

The goal of a ransomware attack is to threaten to release sensitive user data. Since the server has already been hacked, they already have access to everything. Even IF Lea managed to remove the ransomware, the hackers could still publish the sensitive information, making the removal pointless.

Ubisoft, Samsung and Nvidia were all victims of ransomware attacks, and guess what, they all paid. These companies have more expertise than Lea doing everything by herself.

Sorry for the rant. It doesn't bother me in movies, because the reality is just boring, but this episode doesn't belong in the "good doctor", especially since the whole IT sections
were Inaccurate
