"They stole 60 years of life from him" is a weird way to phrase your son being killed. Why are you defining how long he would've lived? You have no idea how long or short he would've lived. I get the point, it's just a weird way to say that.
I wouldn't really call telling the family that the killer is caught good news. Certainly not bad, but it's not like it makes up for the loss. It's just news.
