Why would you randomly kill off Mulder's mother? Why do that? No.

Utterly ridiculous people having visions. It's probably related to the bad religious mythology introduced more in this season in standalone episodes. Or maybe it's related to the killer who can make people see things what he wants and how he can mind control people (although he wouldn't be doing that with the woman in prison now and she saw a vision).
Utterly ridiculous forging of a connection between this killer and the abduction of Mulder's sister. It's so, so bad, when we've had so much information and concrete information about Mulder's sister concerning aliens or the syndicate taking her, and now we've got this further convolution and ridiculous connection of this killer that may or may be true. It's just so bad.
And the killer somehow mind controls people. Probably another supernatural rather than paranormal ability added into the show, which have increased in frequency over the seasons. More supernatural rather than paranormal abilities, and some of them won't get a scientific explanation, it'll just be fantasy. Why didn't the killer use this ability when he was being chased?
Ugh.
The episode is constructed well enough, it's just the writing isn't good and it's impact on the lore and the characters is just bad.
