This was a fine start to the "Stakes" miniseries. I enjoyed the Marceline-specific intro, and her conversation with PB about removing her vampire-ness was a nice, if heavy moment for a kids' TV show, especially the talk that this would mean that Marcy would die one day. By the same token, the vampire-bit animals had a kind of disturbing realness to them in how they were drawn. This show is no stranger to getting a little creepy or unsettling, but it felt a little different somehow.
Despite that, things lightened up quite a bit in the second half of the episode. Jake was on fire joke-wise, between his bad cop routine, his fear of vampires, and his general playfulness. There seemed to some weird animation quirks for whatever reason, with characters eyes going all slanty and some jerks in their movements. Not sure what to make of it. Otherwise, a nice beginning.
