TNG's first paradox time traveller episode is exactly how I remembered it: It's exciting since there's a real mystery and stakes are high. It showcases an interesting concept based on puzzling (yet perhaps possible actual?) physics. And there's a philosophical core: something about pre-determined future, the possibility of free will, infinite universes and inevitable fate. Just like every other Star Trek time paradox episodes it also makes no sense. That's why everybody - characters and audience alike - is confused. Don't think too much about logic and you'll be entertained though.

Admittedly, there's also a lot of starring at the doppelganger, perhaps too much focus on Picard (it's really like a character study of JLP) and Deanna. She isn't exactly useless this time (although she often states the obvious) but seems to be emotional to an extent that her opinion was never seriously taken into account.
