Daria: Season 5

5x10 Aunt Nauseam

8.5/10. Great little stories for everyone in the Morgendorffer family this time around. Helen having to deal with both of her sisters, opening up old wounds, and eventually seeing their conflicts in a different light when they're reflected by Daria and Quinn was a little more dramatic than usual, but still funny and interesting. On the other side of the coin, Quinn seeing her mom and her Aunt Rita fighting and trying to forge a better relationship with Daria is another step in the Quinn development path that seems to be going through this season. I like the effort in Season 5 to show Quinn as still quite naive and often misguided, but well-intentioned in what she's trying to do and growing in the process. Her efforts to be nicer and connect with Daria were well done on that front.

Daria herself is showing a lot of growth in this season, particularly as she learns how to be in a relationship. Her being kind of dismissive and short with Tom and realizing (with her Aunt Amy's advice) that it was a reflection of her own reaction to her cousin going through a divorce and apologizing was a sign of maturity, and it was all done with the usual hilarious sarcastic flair.

On the lighter side of things, Jake's paranoid attempts to escape Helen's family drama were amusing, and Tiffani and Stacy's grand debate about buying the same dress was a reliable source of chuckles as well. All-in-all, a superb episode in what's been a pretty damn great season so far.
