This was overall a fun and sweet love story, but I cannot and will not let some of the stuff in it slide. Which is why I’m going to bump my rating pretty low.
The whole hula part where the elderly lady and the bigger sized woman got body shamed; just no. People aren’t that heartless anyway. Even if it is “truth” that young and slim bodies are more appealing to the masses, the crowd would still clap for the others! Hell, most crowds would respect that older lady so much that they’d make sure she won. Also, the bigger lady was a really cute bigger lady! I say this genuinely. I am not cute as a bigger lady, but many are! So, for her to get no claps at all was fucking stupid. I hope they paid that actress a ton of money to be involved in something so shite. It was just a really tasteless scene and so unnecessary in order for the other two to still have their little hula fight. If it weren’t for that one scene alone this movie would have been a 7 for me.
The whole “women love a married guy” was also so gross as a lead in, but I can’t decide what was more gross, them blatantly going after him because they thought he was married, or him for setting it up that way and then giving them the pleasure of his company with the knowledge of why they were interested. Yuck. I could have let that much go though because it set up the rest of the story so well. But the hula scene.
