The 100+ Most Controversial Films of All-Time: Films always have the ability to anger us, divide us, shock us, disgust us, and more. Usually, films that inspire controversy, outright boycotting, picketing, banning, censorship, or protest have graphic sex, violence, homosexuality, religious, political or race-related themes and content. They usually push the envelope regarding what can be filmed and displayed on the screen, and are considered taboo, "immoral" or "obscene" due to language, drug use, violence and sensuality/nudity or other incendiary elements. With horror films aiming to terrify, spook, shock, disturb, repulse, amuse, entertain and more, it's no wonder the genre is so varied, divisive and controversial.
With so many people ignoring or simply not understanding horror, many great films slip under the radar and are relatively unknown to an audience outside of hardcore horror fans. In order to counteract this and bring awareness to the greatness of the genre, this list was created.

The new picks are certainly deserving, but they're mostly more mainstream movies that a horror fan will likely have already seen - personally, I think the removed movies were more fun to discover.

For this list he combined the average scores from IMDb, Letterboxd, Rotten Tomatoes & Metacritic, and tweaked the results with data from Letterboxd, iCheckMovies, TSPDT?, TMDb and IMDb.

In 1999 the British Film Institute invited a large amount of people working within the film and television industry to take part in finding the 100 top British films of the 20th century.
The title here should be "The Big Film Noir-ish List" but I leave it as is for easy searching.
Film Noir is not a genre, rather it was a movement. The last true film in that movement was "Touch of Evil" in 1958. This list includes Film Noir, Neo-Noir, Post-Modernist Neo-Noir, and other films that were informed - either in theme or form - by the Film Noir movement.

I started off by gathering ratings from IMDB (User/Critic Average), Rotten Tomatoes (Tomatometer, Critic Average, Audience Score, User Average), Metacritic (Critic Average, User Average) and Letterboxd (User Average). I was then able to determine a rating (out of 10) for each individual rating and therefore come up with an average rating for each site. Each site’s average rating was then weighted fairly so that no site’s ratings were favored above the rest.
The next step was to make sure that each film was treated fairly. Other top movie list’s like IMDb’s Top 1000 removes films that have under a certain viewing number (25,000 I think), but rather than ruling out films that may have been overlooked by the general audience (especially older films), I opted to alter these films score by carefully deducting points depending on how many people have seen it, and therefore voted on it. I also thought it was needed to make sure that recent films (released within the past 36 months) were also not favored, as it usually takes 3 years for the average rating to settle down. So I also added a deduction to these films that fell under this rule.

When we think of Slasher Flicks, we mainly think of masked killers, blood, clever kills, and promiscuous teens in various stages of undress; because that's what they are, for the most part. There are plenty of Slashers that offer more than just visceral thrills though, giving us things like atmosphere, tension, genuine terror, levity, and even solid stories that help fray our nerves in different and clever ways.
No matter what variety they come in though, the Slasher Flick is an important staple in the Horror Genre, and one that most Horror Fanatics tend to embrace with open arms.

All 6 of them are true Classics for a reason; they changed the Horror Genre as a whole, each to different degrees, and they all bring their own unique and terrifying vision to a Sub-Genre that is usually dismissed as being nothing more than a vehicle for cheap thrills.
