Nicely animated sequel that is better than the original.
This one’s been receiving a lot of praise, and I don’t entirely understand why. The animation’s pretty good, it could’ve been amazing if they played around with the lighting, colour and texture a little bit more. It’s above average for Western animation standards but I can tell it won’t age as well as any of the Spiderverse movies it’s copying stylistically. The story is the typical Dreamworks formula; a kind of generic, predictable adventure quest with a balance of humor for all ages with some more kid friendly slapstick mixed in. Some elements are quite well executed, for example I really like the opening scene that effectively re-establishes this character’s backstory and personality. The set pieces are also quite memorable by playing around with the frame rate and using the style to its benefit. On the other hand, there are elements that feel undercooked, such as the forgettable songs and underwritten supporting characters. Taking out Wolf and Jack Horner and just making Goldilocks the villain instead would probably improve the movie as her crew is one of the more entertaining elements. As is I find the primary villain, besides an interesting resolution, kinda bland. Overall, it’s the exact same movie Dreamworks has been making for the past 25 years. The animation does just enough to keep it fresh, but I see no reason to pretend this is some secret masterpiece when there are other Dreamworks films that are arguably a lot more bold conceptually (Shrek 1&2; Kung Fu Panda 2).
6/10
Doesn't the Jiminy cricket conscious sound like jimmy stewart? Is that a "it's a wonderful life" reference?
suprisingly revived modern western animation
No one expected Puss in Boots to go this hard. Easily the best Dreamworks movie since How to Train Your Dragon.
Let the star from the sky give back the original graphics, the cartoon-comic one in the action scenes didn't suit me a bit. ;>
It's really good, much better than the first one. The animation is amazing. I like the style where they animate some scenes at a slower framerate.
Love this series, but the final installation was so disappointing. Maybe the producers shouldn’t have got their last wish?
Animation that’s this stunning is really rare. God, this movie is made beautifully. The story is great, really mature in some ways, and it has some amazing jokes. Sure, it’s a kids movie, but this was really awesome.
A movie with surprising depth. An inspiring message about family, life, and death
A fun adventure for all ages. I don't think it was all it was hyped up to be but regardless this is a solid film with a great story, amazing visuals, anime style fights and some pretty wholesome heartwarming moments. I enjoyed it one of dreamworks best in a while. Give us Shrek 5.
man that art was exquisite! the plot was decent too, not childish like i was expecting!
Contrary to what happens with the adventures of the franchise that saw the birth of the character, the Puss in Boots saga has managed to get better with this second part. While its first spin-off didn't get more than a passing grade, the sequel has gone further both narratively and technically, gaining personality on its own.
All this accompanied by very interesting characters with their own personality, of course keeping those winks to the popular tales that identify the Shrek universe. In the case of "The Wolf" (with which we will not go into too much detail), it is a very interesting twist to the character and we personally loved it.
The change of animation in the fight scenes for a style almost close to stop-motion gives it a very interesting style, and it is appreciated that in the spanish version professional voice actors are kept (not to mention the voice of Antonio Banderas who repeats with El Gato) at a time when so many celebrities are used instead of professionals.
Can you believe that a freaking Puss In Boots movie has a more frightening antagonist than any of the damn Marvel flicks that came out this year?
I'd go as far as to say this is an animated masterpiece. A near-perfect family movie. Puss In Boots: The Last Wish blows the first movie out of the water and delivers one of Dreamwork's best films ever. It touches upon themes of mortality, love, friendship, growth, and more in such an engaging way. The character development of Puss is a sight to behold. This movie is highly memorable and rewatchable. 10/10
Why am I crying so heavily? How come I burst into tears from nowhere after hearing "Our world became just right"?
Such a simple formula beautifully strengthened by a masterful story.
I just LOVED it. It's such a good vibe movie that will put a smile on your face at the end of it.
Loved all the characters, even the secondary ones. They just make sense and really add to the story, which has been rare in recent movies
Anyway, go watch it!
This wasn’t as good as people acted like it was. That dog was so annoying
After reading so many positive reviews for "Puss in Boots: The Last Wish", my expectations were high. Fortunately, they were also mostly fulfilled. I have to admit that I always have certain difficulties finding an approach to animated films that are primarily made for children. With this one, however, that's not such a big problem, as it works well for adults, too.
The film is vibrantly colored, with an animation style that seamlessly blends 3D and 2D effects while also constantly coming up with new creative ideas. The humor works quite well most of the time. There are parts where only adults will probably get the jokes. Nevertheless, the film can be recommended for children without hesitation. There are a few more serious themes addressed, but in the end, everything is easy to comprehend.
For me, the story was perhaps a little too frantic, overloaded, and unfocused. Also, the number of characters could probably have been reduced a bit. Overall, though, I won't complain too much, as the film is so much better than it needs to be. I myself have only seen the very first Shrek movie from the series so far. But "The Last Wish" works very well even without prior knowledge.
i want a solo spin off movie about that talking cricket being put in horrific ethical dilemmas
better than any other supes released in recent years in terms of story villain and character arc
The animation was not bad, and Banderas with the cat was remarkable. The plot was not overly childish as other similar American movies, but similarly was a bit flat and uninspiring. It gained some traction for the numerous citations from traditional fairy tales and Disney films, but it was not the first time the same producer used the same expedient.
This was a good ending(?) to the series, it was funny and edgy for an animated movie. There were large swaths of the movie, though, where CGI was thrown out the window and it feels like you are watching 90's era animation, almost comic book style - perhaps that was intentional but it was distracting to see a high-def Puss one second then a low-def "comic book style" Puss fighting a villain.
For me it's not a keeper, just a one-time watch, but it was cute.
Wow! A 2020+ Universal animation with talent and pride put into their works. Please Universal more Dreamworks films like this and less cheap Illumination films.
What a beautiful sequel (both in style & story)
Although it is aimed at children, this movie was pretty funny and the primary antagonist 'Death' was awesome! Only negative... Olivia Colman's talent wasn't exactly prominent!
That ending man, THAT ENDING, that melody and the Far Far Away city... I'm so nostalgic now... Give me more shrek-verse!
Can't go wrong with this series. Plus n boys is and forever will be entertaining watch. This follows it's own plot not to far from it's predecessors. Action packed connect make for a fun watch for the entire family
HIGHLY RECOMMEND
Fun adventure and good humour once again. Tops the first installment slightly which is a solid achievement.
Recommend. 7.6
liked the way they made some of fight scenes ;it really felt 3D and immersive ; the singing parts @ Antonio Banderas could have been better. overall a good movie.
This is so funny :joy:
This movie is absolutely incredible. It is Top 5 animated movies for me ALL TIME, and I can only name the original Shrek as being outwardly better. Despite being a family family, it was quite mature themed and is almost more targeted at grandparents that would be watching with grandchildren. If you have not watched this yet, please do so!
Rating: 5/5 - 9.5/10 - Highly Recommend
I loved the wolf so much that if I wasn't a doctor I would tattoo him on my arm
Wow. What a beautiful, stunning animated film. This oozes style and charm. Loved it.
Well the pussy had the right boots in this one, lots of action, great sense of humour, a good voice cast, some nice effects and a lovely message with a sound plot.
since the first five minutes i immediately knew i would LOVE this movie, ever since i saw the trailer for it, i couldn't wait to finally watch it and i loved every minute of it, the attention to detail and the direction they took with the animation style and the story is just PERFECT;
the voice acting was exceptional, and the side characters, even those were so well voiced and written, i especially loved Goldilock's character, and once i found out it was none other than Florence Pugh voicing her? instant like.
whenever the villain's whistle melody started playing, literal chills, such a fun story, with so many well choreographed and directed action scenes, funny times as well, and amazing characters & story overall
& that song at the end? it had me dancing through the whole end credit scenes
What happened and who threw money at this?
I'll be honest I saw the original, thought it was ok nothing stellar, when my friend suggested seeing this sequel I was like eh sure, I barely remember the first, but I'll prob enjoy it. .... all I can say is It blew me away.
The first 10 mins in and I was like ok this is a step up, by the end I was singing its praises, its rare for a sequel to be better than the original but I believe this is one of those rare cases. It has on point animation, great humor and plenty of action sequences, well worth a watch.
I was surprised how good this was, the action scenes reminded me of spider-man enter the spiderverse and that’s a good thing. The comedy and writing for this title was great and well done, a great family movie night for all to enjoy and be fully engaged in.
Loved this movie. The animation and story was amazing. Hope they keep making more.
Amazing movie ! We really enjoyed it, it has the old cartoon movie vibe which i miss a lot
"I was there to witness all of them. Each frivolous end. But you didn't even notice me, because Puss in Boots always laughs in the face of death, right? But you're not laughing now."
I never expected a sequel to from a spin-off of a franchise that was relevant 20 years ago to be this much fun! Loved the animation, really liked the story and Puss in Boots is still the best part about the Far Far Away-verse.
Give this little kitty a chance and you'll be amazed. Loved the jokes, loved the references. Good job Dream Works!
Lots of adventure. Great voice work. Beautiful animation. Great family fun. I give this film a 9 (superb) out of 10.
Rated a Connor 10, normal 9.6
Think I actually enjoyed this more than the original film. Great story and just a lot of fun. The animation was great and loved how it changed during the fight scenes.
The movie had excellent animation, with cute and visually appealing animals. The story was decent, making it an enjoyable watch overall.
Overall good. Love the new art style and direction of Dreamworks. The jokes were a little cheesy, the villains all cheap and cookie cutter.
My favorite parts were the main 3 heroes sharing the screen, especially the dog.
Puss in Boots' second solo outing improves on the first in every way.
The biggest improvement comes in the story/writing department. While the original was generally surface level and kid-focused, this film provides a meatier narrative with foundational themes that offer much more for adult audiences. It sounds like a superficial compliment, but this film simply has more going on, with what feels like three times as many story threads as the original. Most importantly, those story threads are successfully weaved together in a way that feels natural and provides worthwhile payoffs.
The improvement in story is intrinsically tied to the incredibly strong supporting cast of characters. The standout out for me was Goldilocks and the three bears, whose side story stands toe to toe with Puss' central narrative in terms of emotional strength. I also enjoyed that their story harkened back to the Shrek days, with its simple yet clever twist on a classic fairy tale. Beyond that, there is of course Perrito, whose wholesome innocence provides a worthwhile sounding board for the rest of the cast, and the big bad wolf, who offers a suitably intimidating presence and fantastic action sequences with every appearance. The only character that didn't do much for me was Jack Horner. I've never been a huge Mulaney fan, as his performances always strike me as same-y, so that was part of it, but I think my real complaint is that the character stands out as one dimensional compared to everyone else in the film. Luckily, that's not as much of a problem for a villain in an animated kids movie, especially when the film offers two other compelling pseudo-villains.
Finally, there is the animation. The film makes the interesting choice to weave in various styles that depart from the classic Dreamworks' look. This mostly occurs during action sequences, and if I had to guess, I'd say the inspiration comes from things like Into the Spiderverse and anime. Under the hood, I also suspect that there may have been a budgetary benefit to this decision. While the transitions caught me off guard initially (the lower frame rate animations in particular), I ultimately was converted, as the animation consistently delivers visually creative action sequences.
I love the dynamic between perrito, kitty softpaws and puss it's perfect for a movie. I cannot wait for the next one
One of my favorite representations of Death in visual media.
My favourite character in both of the movies is that one cat who puts his hand on his mouth and says: "ooohhh". (✷‿✷)
Very traditional hero story. The dog is sooooo cute!!!
This was such a fun movie! The art style was creative and pleasant to watch. The story, although a bit formulaic, was entertaining and meaningful.
The Shrek universe retained its original charm.
They did a great job for almost everything, the comedy, the horror, the fairytales, the plot, the moral messages, everything. The characters all get their screentime. The visuals are also so gorgeous. Thank you Dreamworks, keep up the good work:pray:. Shrek 5 when? Kung Fu Panda 4 when?
What to say about Puss in Boots!
This movie is simply beautiful, the animation is impeccable, it has some arcade features in the action scenes, and the colors are very bright and strong.
The story goes back to the old puss in Boots with a Vintage touch. makes the cat really have to be a real cat, because of the belief that a cat has 9 lives and due to carelessness it is in its last one. And so, he must live with his last life... unlike many, he doesn't want to live more intensely because of the fear of death.
The film makes the viewer understand the good side of life; that you only live once and you should take advantage of every possible moment and detail. And it still teaches a lesson, where it movie that the most important of any desire or any achievement, friendship is the most important and family too. and like any children's movie, it has a charming and cute character, where he is simple and somewhat naive. and has just the right amount of humor; with a super important role.
In the end, great movie, good and complete story with a somewhat unexpected ending.
I was not expecting to like this, if I'm being honest. The first movie was pretty bad imo, but this one was quite good. It goes a little too hard in some aspects, but it's tightly written. I really liked that. Goldi was my favorite character.
Also, the production was stellar, especially the camera work. There's obviously an artistic whiplash with the first movie, but whatever, it looks incredible and I prefer this one.
Although Trix may be for kids, Puss in Boots: The Last Wish, is for the child in heart that sometimes, in the midst of "adulting", we neglect, in lieu of acting like a grown-up.
The voice casting was perfection, with Antonio Banderas once again taking on the role of the "Stabby Tabby, Leche Whispering hero we didn't know we needed, and Salma Hayek reprising her role as the soft pawed Kitty with an attitude, just looking for someone she can truly trust. Harvey Guillen is the newest edition, rounding out our adventurous trio as "Perrito". a tiny dog, we first meet, pretending to be a cat, so he can score some steady grub. Florence Pugh is also a standout, as she doffs her Black Widow costume for something a little more renaissance as Goldilocks, who doesn't realize that her wish has already been granted.
the Story has lots of laugh out loud moments, as well as attention holding animation, a fun musical score, and a storyline with a moral arc, Puss in Boots: The Last Wish is a tail for our own time.
Very touching movie. The storie was pretty decent. Good movie overall
This is a really good movie. Brings back the old feeling of watching these cartoons.
The buzz around this movie is justly given. What a great film period, animated or not. The Spider-Verse influence is felt strongly in the action sequences that completely pop from the screen with their harsh, dynamic angles and double timed frame pacing. The topics approached throughout are relatable and very heartfelt; diverse also with each group of characters having their own arc that never feels rushed or quickly wrapped. That and Wolf is one of the greatest villains in an animated movie of all time. So menacing, while still being engaging, the perfect embodiment of Death while still being palatable for a kids movie.
If I had to nitpick, and I'm really scraping here, I'd say that Florence is abnormally flat here; her usual presence that is felt on screen is lost in her somewhat uninspired delivery of Goldilocks, which is only heightened by the superb performances from Winstone and Colman. It's not distractingly bad and only a nitpick, but definitely felt a little lacking when everything else was swinging for the fences.
Do yourself a favour and carve out the 90 minutes to enjoy this gem, it is every bit as good as people are saying.
The tease! The finale tease! Please give this team the Shrek franchise and let them do whatever they want. P L E A S E!
Shockingly good. WAY better than it has any right to be.
"I am Death. And I don't mean it metaphorically or rhetorically or poetically or theoretically or any other fancy way. I AM DEATH. STRAIGHT UP!"
What started as a typical kids/family movie, 5-10 minutes in, but as soon as Puss first fights the wolf character, which ends with blood running down the cat’s face, then having his life flashes before his eyes, and feeling absolute fear. After that scene, I knew this be better than the first movie and my expectations beforehand.
Eleven years later, the sequel surpassed the first film in terms of animation, humour, and mature themes.
I am honestly surprised by how much I enjoyed this one.
What a dramatic and sharp improvement from the first. And the first wasn't even bad! But this is like it cut off the shackles the first was under to fit in the formula of the franchise, the studio, and anknated movies of the time in general. Now in Spiderverse's wake they realized they can be daring and be a genuinely great swashbuckling fairy tale instead of an average parodic sendup of one.
In the first sequence alone the film sells you more on Puss' appeal and that he's truly a legend more than the entire first film did. And then in its second action scene to immediately tear that apart and deconstruct it, that that reckless fearlessness was its own firm of cowardice, and that without it Puss is pathetic? To deconstruct the very achetype Puss was made to parody and in doing so propel him to being an actually great example of it instead of just coasting on Banderas' charisma? It's fantastic, and all the characters are equally sharp.
Banderas owns this material, but Hayek who I thought was only serviceable in the first film really picks up her game to match him in this one. She feels more lived in, hitting the sensitive and vulnerable notes as well as the strong and suave ones to perfection. Guillen has been one of my breakout stars over the last few years and shows why as comic relief that is never obnoxious and the heart of the film that's never cloying or unearned. And throw in the antagonists- three groups the film balances perfectly- that run the gamut from Moura's terrifying force of nature to the charming and sympathetic Goldilocks and her Bear family to Mulaney's unrepentantly evil and loving it Jack, and you have a perfect cast of characters.
The world itself pulls in you as well, for the first time not being an anything goes vehicle of parody like Shrek or a slightly lifeless and generic sendup of Zorro-style Mexico, but instead a world with a breathtaking identity of its own. While taking cues from Spider Verse's visuals, it tweaks them to perfectly capture the larger than life and fantastically vibrant awe of a fairy tale. It doesn't look like any other animated movie like Shrek did in its later years, or like Puss in Boots did to muted response. This is the film that justifies more stories in this world, because it finally feels lived in and invested in, not as meta jokes or deconstructions of genre but as s setting in of itself. Even side characters like the Serpent Sisters have such charming designs, performances, and lively animation that I want to see more of it. It's fascinating to think what a Shrek film could possibly look like under this new vision, and for the first time, I'm interested in seeing why.
Balancing winning humor, well crafted themes, and excellent drama and characterization, Puss In Boots: The Last Wish exceeded my expectations. From the trailers, I noted the Spider-Verse influence and thought it would be a similar visual feast, but would probably miss that film's passion in other areas. What I got instead was that passion to spare, and one of my favorite films of the year.
This movie rocks, and is a huge improvement on the first film. As much as I love the first film, this one's just on a whole other level. The most obvious improvement is the animation, which is so alive and filled with color that makes it pop. The first film was also well animated, but not nearly to this degree. The fight scenes are also fantastic, especially with death. Speaking of death, wow has he got to be one of the best villains in dreamworks history. WAY better than humpty ever was in the first, which is probably my biggest criticism of the first. Whenever death showed up, chills ran down puss's spine and mine. Watching puss confront his mortality for the first time in his many lives is extremely touching, and the character arc he goes through is just fantastic. In the first film he didn't change much as a character, so I'm glad this movie exists. This movie isn't a masterpiece, but it's a damn near perfect sequel, and I can't recommend it enough.
Loved this movie. I watched it earlier with the kids and it was great. Lots of jokes and action. The story was also really good.
Harvey Guillen as Perro absolutely steals the show though. That little chihuahua had the entire theater cracking up every time it was on the screen.
The Dreamworks Renaissance is officially here. This is their best work since Kung Fu Panda 2 and the best Shrek film since Shrek 2. Can not fucking wait for what this studio has in store for the future now.
FLORENCE PUGH JUST GOT CAST IN THIS OMG

Suprised me how good it is.
Humor was great, animation top notch and the fight scenes were amazingly done,
