Sleep Tight 2011

Good thriller.

The sense of danger is mindblowing, really tense and good thriller.

A disturbing, sickening and downright evil psychological drama with quite an original premise. It is one of those horror films that's more concerned with the journey and I'd say I haven't seen anything like it. The central premise sounds so bizarre and mean-spirited, about a doorman who finds pleasure in ruining people's day. However, how things unravel are completely different than what I imagined. It's quite slow but the suspense level of this film is off the chart, and I was extremely curious to see the outcome. I find it fascinating that a film about a madman can be this ugly without showing much killing or torture. The way that it's so committed and remain focused without adding sub-plots is so impressive. Solid overall but if you're expecting this to be a shocker you might be disappointed.

Twisted remedy for loneliness

A lonely, depressed and miserable man's search for happiness and meaning in life. He finds it in going around making other people miserable and sabotaging their happiness—not the best way to do it, buddy. Sleep Tight puts you in the shoes of the sociopathic stalker, describes you his meticulous procedure and narrates his thoughts. The edge-of-your-seat tension is so great that it tricks you into being stressed for both the protagonist and the antagonist—a surprising feat given you know just how evil he is. Luis Tosar gives a great performance, his character was so interesting to psycho analyse. The scene with his mother was so intense and troubling. Perfect pacing I was never bored. Some questionnable decision making from characters but it wasn't too off-putting. Single location setting is always great. Definitely a hidden gem.

A serious reminder that under the bed empty spaces are dangerous!

A good thriller with an interesting premise. All of the performances are engaging. Luis Tosar does excellent as César, especially his cold gaze when doing such awful things. The cinematography creatively conveys what each scene is trying to express emotionally. The editing was sharp and the well-executed pacing of the story held my attention throughout. Unfortunately, It had some prominent flaws and many minor flaws as well. The ending was bad and didn't really satisfy what the movie was leading to. Sadly, a poor ending brings a movie down a lot for me. Marcos could have been a more engaging character, even though the actor was fantastic. Some overall missed opportunities were had. A few roughly written dialogue bits too. Despite that, I think it was well done. 6/10 from me.
