Touched with Fire 2016

As somebody who suffers from depression I found this movie very affecting. Mental illness is a bastard of a disease, limiting and dark for the sufferer. The film does a good job in portraying this but also remains hopeful. Those who suffer mentally can find the light... after clawing through dark places to get there.

They picked the most mundane bipolar story ever. I mean, there are all sorts of mania stories that are very entertaining, like Andy Behrman's true adventures in Electroboy. He does art forgeries, becomes a filmmaker, a PR executive, a stripper, and gets incarcerated even; etc. But these two manic lovers are dull as dishwater. Being manic is the most interesting thing about them! As if.

I did find the way Katie Holmes character was tricked by that sleazy psychiatrist into getting committed to be accurate, however.

Enjoyed the cameo from notorious writer on bipolar- Kay Jamison. Though she sounded a bit impaired herself, from antipsychotics I assume.

Also, off subject but, Holmes likes roles that have a bit of fragility to them, I've noticed.

Things I liked:
- The colour palette
- The references to "Starry Night" by Vincent van Gogh
- The fluid camera work, because it supported the emotions
- The cinematography
- The first half of the story
- Katie Holmes

Things I didn't like:
- The rest
