Zombieland 2009

It forced me to buy a Twinkie, and I it was disgusting :D The movie was funny, though.

Apparently this movie made my brother pick up running. Yes, it takes a movie to learn that my brother is expecting a zombie apocalypse... and he's training to survive it.

It might not be the most spectacular plot, but boy it does have spectacular gory stuff and so much humor! xD

Hilarious and sick brace yourself for zombie clowns and the last Twinkie
Epic!

Love this movie

Can't explain my disappointments toward this film. The production value is high but it needs less bullshit love story and more zombie killing. There's too many filler scenes in the middle. The humor didn't do anything for me and I couldn't stand Jesse Eisenberg in here.

loading replies

Why does Jesse Eisenberg play the same unlikable character in every movie?

loading replies

The protagonist is so incredibly unlikable I wish his neighbour would’ve killed him off and had her own movie instead. Him shooting Bill Murray was pretty neat though.
And then there’s the fact that the movie is just terribly written. What even was that ending? They made the two badass female characters do something extremely stupid just so the misogynistic main character could get a chance at being the hero and save them.

loading replies

It's quite funny :) Jesse Eisenberg, Woody Harrelson, and Emma Stone are just such a great team to cast <3 They're dysfunctional and funny at the same time. That little girl was also good.

And I really appreciate the rule to always double tap. That isn't just important for zombies. It's a classical mistake that characters often make in other movies and it's kinda annoying.

It might even deserve a 7.5/10.

An aspiring successor to Shaun of the Dead that really gets what made the original work so well. Alternatingly charming, hilarious, shocking and suspenseful, it would be tough to pinpoint a particular genre for this film, were it not so thoroughly overrun by swarms of high-speed, viscera-vomiting, man-eating corpses. Blessed with a strong, versatile cast, appropriately overdone special effects and a wicked, black sense of humor that rolled right up my alley, this is much more than just another throwaway monster movie. Loads of fun to watch, for the first time or the fiftieth time, it can also brag one of the greatest surprise cameos in modern memory. Strongly recommended, although you'll need a well-trained stomach because the gore is pervasive.

Watched it again after 10 years so i can catch part two later this month. Still the same movie i remember - that cheesy Robin Williams kinda family movie with the zombie spin, tho this time around I've seen a whole lot more movies to realize how weakly the characters are bonded together. and with all the rumbo jumbo big zombie moments packed in the last act, 86mins wasn't that hard to pass.
And MY GOD was Bill Murray a marvel! From a gesture to a smile he's just irresistibly funny from head to toe and backwards. 5 minutes in a movie and he had the whole show completely stolen.

An amazing and really funny zombie movie. Zombie movies are one of my favourites so I have high expectations, and this definetely met it, therefore, earning it self an 9/10.

A fun little quirky comedy. The Bill Murray cameo is by far the best part and it kinda dips after that.

"Zombieland" kind of struck a nerve with me in 2009. I generally like the zombie genre anyway, and this movie added some really nice touches. Even though it's obviously primarily a comedy, the horror/zombie aspect works pretty well too. There are also some clever ideas in the presentation. The rules of the world are established quickly and effectively, and the film is also otherwise very efficient in its storytelling. The makeup effects are also quite respectable. However, the biggest draw of "Zombieland" is the cast, especially the main quartet. Woody Harrelson and Jesse Eisenberg immediately have good chemistry, and Emma Stone and Abigail Breslin complement that perfectly later on. Because of that, you can overlook one or two weaknesses, like the somewhat generic story.

Fine, it has just enough personality and quirk to carry it to the finish line.
It’s a bit forgettable and the characters feel like stereotypes, but the third act and funny moments along the way make up for that. Some of comedy is a little obvious or irksome, and generally it feels like Rhett Reese is pulling too much from the Joss Whedon playbook, which he did more successfully with Deadpool (but I suppose that comedy style wasn’t as played out when this came out).
The filmmaking is competent, with the cinematography and editing having a distinct 2000s indie feel to them, but it never becomes truly interesting or visionary.
It’s a mild recommendation, mostly because in many ways it feels like the watered down studio version of Shaun of the Dead.

6/10

I am surprised it has been since at least 2017 when I watched this last! It is so up my alley it isn't fair to most other movies in comparison. Zombies, gory, tongue in cheek humor, and a brisk runtime. It is truly everything I love in movies in a general sense, wrapped up in a nice little bow. This one is still superior to the sequel, even if the sequel is awesome in its own right.

Rating: 4.5/5 - 9/10 - Highly Recommend

Zombieland is a hilarious comedy-horror that's incredibly entertaining. In the wake of the zombie apocalypse, a group of survivors make their way across the country looking for a safe haven (and Twinkies). Woody Harrelson, Jesse Eisenberg, Emma Stone, and Abigail Breslin all give exceptional performances and really get the tone of the film. And the action gets pretty wild and crazy, finding creative ways to fight zombies. Also, the pacing is quite good; delivering a tight adventure that never lags. A remarkable well-crated film, Zombieland is full of laughs and thrills.

Was ok, not very good but ok, sometimes in this movie, zombies is missing and this is bad, sometimes is boring, but the final fight with zombies was WOW, very good.

Somehow I missed this movie when it came out. Finally watched it in 2020 cause the Double Tap came out and got my attention. LOVED it!! Even my wife who doesn't like gory-type moves laughed all the way through it. 10/10

I've finally found that type of comedy, I could watch over and over again. Hilarious film.

Now, that’s how you close out Halloween! To be perfectly honest I don’t really have a lot to say about Zombieland. It’s absolutely hilarious. That’s the really important part. It stands over most other comedy-horrors however because it has a truly incredible cast of characters and great big heart. In between all of the great zombie prosthesis and jokes lays a surprisingly uplifting and poignant message about how the journey is more important than the destination. Sure, it’s simplistic but as the movie itself says “Enjoy The Little Things”. Zombieland is an almost perfectly small movie about the apocalypse. It just sort of works

What a pleasant surprise.   The first 15 minutes were a little intense (I'm not a fan of the genre) but the rest of the film was quite enjoyable. The scene in the middle steals the movie, as you would expect.

The story is terrible, Colombus is the typical nice guy and both him and Tallahassee are complete idiots in this movie, letting themselves be led by two little girls. And, the chemistry between Jesse Eisenberg and Emma Stone is nonexistant, it just doesn't work at all. And the concept of running zombies just made no sense at all. I didn't completely hate this movie though, there were funny scenes, and some good nostalgia from having watched it with an old friend around 1 year after it's release.

Very entertaining and Fun movie. I really enjoy it for the second time viewing as well.

Will undoubtedly become a cult classic.

loading replies

The classic American comedy themed zombies. Fun, little else to say.

loading replies

not much what i though. definitely the sequel soon can't beat this one.

loading replies

Finally got round to watching this and it was delightful. The on-screen graphics for Columbus' rules are right up my street. Found myself outburst in laughter at some of the jokes but they're not exactly memorable. Maybe after a few re-watches, I think this could become a go-to favourite. Great character development. A playful balance between comedy, drama, romance and horror. Bill Murray.

The ONLY funny horror comedy I know! I was very skeptical after the highly acclaimed "Shaw of the Dead" (which I found mediocre, at best!) but this flick really delivers! 2 thumbs up!!!

Though this one is full of stereotypes, it is really well done.
Great cast, too.

Good enough, but happy I was able to see it as part of my streaming Netflix subscription rather than paying anything near full price for it. The performances are good (Eisenberg is particularly engaging), and it makes for an interesting counterpoint to THE SOCIAL NETWORK.

It's really entertaining even though it's more comedic than most zombie movies. I loved the dynamics between the characters and I never saw the Tallahassee plot twist coming. It's been a while since I've been shocked and genuinely heartbroken.

I'm also glad they didn't kill Tallahassee at the end just to make the ending more 'deep' or whatever.
