I actually liked the episode!
Do we really need this back story? It has nothing to do with American Gods or the war to come. The episode is well directed but slows down the flow of the overall series. A real disappointment.
ok, I know now, I really hate Laura Moon. Such a disgusting character!!
Although a much slower pace than expected, I think this told a nice backstory and much better than the book ever did. It feels almost like Neil Gaimann felt this was lacking in the book and wanted to get a second chance to do the story right! I don't know if he is this involved with the screenplay, but I liked it! That said, I do hope the story will pick up soon, as there are not that meny episodes to this series.
The first half was pretty slow and a little boring. But the second half was amazing.
This episode ends exactly like the previous one. That's how the story "progresses" in this show. (Yes, I know, it was a back story episode, please don't ruin my sarcasm).
Four episodes in and I'm still waiting for the show to actually start. No, I haven't read the books, nor do I care about them. If I did, I'd have read them instead of watching the show. I'm only watching this because of:
a) the premise looked good
b) hype
c) Bryan Fuller is a certified talented guy and he's the author of two of my favourite TV series of all time.
There is one thing that I did enjoy about this episode. Shadow looked like a different character, more naive, optimistic, not carrying that certain darkness/heaviness/gloominess with him that we've seen in the previous episodes. I guess that's what prison and a broken heart can do to you. I did enjoy knowing how he was before and how he came to be.
Now what I really want to know is where the fuck are all the gods and what are they up to. And half the season is already gone... Maybe there's still hope for the remaining four episodes.
While this series runs at a slower pace similar to Salem or Taboo, episode 4 is deathly slow and put me off watching the series. It is based at a time before Shadow begins his prison sentence and explains the crime he committed. It answers a lot of questions about the plot that nobody was asking to fill in about how he met his wife and why she cheated on him, and is frankly a boring tangent story. Feel free to skip the first 33 minutes of this episode.
Only Bryan Fuller can turn an hour of backstory into a truly engaging and entertaining episode of television
I currently - and always will - hate Emily Browning.
I really liked this episode. Explain many thinks
i love this...just beautiful narratives
Slow and boring first half, but then. Wow. That is ball kicking!
Ok, it's pretty obvious they stole some ideas from Sissy Spacek's "Carrie." LOLOLOLOLL :pig::pig:
idk this episode didn't explain too much. The only thing I really wanted to know that was explained was for what crime Shadow went to prison. They didn't even really explain how Laura was alive? Was it the lucky coin?
idk, she's probably depressed but i really dislike Laura now. Why did she marry Shadow if she didn't love him in that way i'm confused.
Still slow and weird af when is it getting better ? xD first episode was so good
I never hated Laura even though what she did was made to make her seem like a bitch. In this episode, she just seems extremely indifferent to everything. I can understand why people may hate her because she cheated on Shadow with his best friend and how she was giving him a blowjob when they both died, that makes sense. But to still hate her after watching this episode, that's pretty messed up. I'm sure there are a few people who felt that way. It's not surprising.
Well, this is refreshing. This is the episode that actually sold me on the show. Complete backstory for Laura, something that book never addressed and was always left kind of vague and pointless. This just highlights how flawed the book was, as the best parts of the show are the ones that are not in the book.
First half is only backstory leading up to the accident. Boring af. But it gets good once she's dead.
I was excited to learn Emily Browning was playing Laura in the show, even though the character has few parts in the book. Seeing this episode with sole focus on her backstory just made so happy, and Browning was great in it. She's definitely playing Laura brilliantly and I cannot wait to see more!
Be careful Laura or you 'll end up like Mad & Hel in Death becomes her xD
I really liked this episode, seeing Laura's journey.
Casting Dane Cook as the douchebag is almost too on the nose.

American Gods is the only show to portray accurately what it feels like to be kicked in the balls.
