Avenue 5

Season 1

Disappointing, considering Iannucci’s other work. I am missing his “bite”, though I did enjoy Laurie.

Dunno what it is, maybe the lack of “authentic swearing”? It just feels very PG rated and.... underplayed?

Maybe that’ll change when / if there is a second season. It wasn’t terrible, but def. not what I had hoped for / expected.

I am surprised by the low rate of the show. It is quite nice. The comedy is fine, the placing good, the history is something fresh. The only thing is maybe the 2nd line actors could be better. It seems that Hugh was expensive :) but overall it is good show. 7.5/10

Just a wonderful journey of pure anguish and continuous horrible decision making that makes everything worse. I love it.

Disappointed overall. Started reasonable enough and gradually went down hill. Good idea, poorly executed.

You know any show/movie has dodgy writers when every other word is the 'F-bomb" - it's a dead giveaway that they are padding the dialogue. This show is over relying on f-bombs, actually thinking it's making it funny.

By episode 7 stupidity beyond Monty Python had pretty much run rampant and it was more tedious than barely interesting... gave up. Next!!

FIRST THOUGHTS:
I didn’t expect to love this show as much as I did - though with Iannucci at the helm, I shouldn’t have been surprised. Even as a work of science fiction, it’s incredibly honest (and deeply pessimistic) about human nature and behavior in some very funny and deeply disturbing ways. Even though it was made before the pandemic, there are some incredibly prescient elements that make this quite the cathartic watch. The cast is fantastic, the world-building is excellent and subtle, and the social satire spot-on. I can’t wait for the next season.
