WOW! First minute and I'm already facepalming so hard... :o
Their mobile phone scenes never made sense (even if they had an UMTS/LTE/etc. sender at their spaceship) but now they have to make their disrespect of physics so obvious? :o I don't even know where to begin... RTTs increase linearly with the distance from earth and the signal quality doesn't suddenly drop half way between mars and earth. BTW: "Radio waves propagate in vacuum at the speed of light c, exactly 299,792,458 m/s. Propagation time to the Moon and back ranges from 2.4 to 2.7 seconds, with an average of 2.56 seconds (distance from Earth to the Moon is 384,400 km)." (https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Earth%E2%80%93Moon%E2%80%93Earth_communication)
A RTT of 2.56 s is already way too much for a casual phone conversation and for Mars this is obviously much worse: https://blogs.esa.int/mex/2012/08/05/time-delay-between-mars-and-earth/
See also https://www.spaceacademy.net.au/spacelink/commdly.htm for how bad these delays actually are. And it's not like this is one of a few problems. This show bends the laws of physics and established procedures for space travel, etc. however they like. And I don't like that... Either make it a parody or comedy but not something that "pretends" to be (somewhat) real but just focuses on artificial dramas. Thanks! :D (sorry for the rant)
Edit:
Or in the words of the show: "They're trying so hard to make everything seem normal. But the more they try and do that, the more clear it is that it's... not normal. It'll never be normal."
A few good things though:
Really good episode. Put me right into the Christmas spirit even though it‘s not December yet. The story surrounding Misha and his daughter was heartbreaking but told in a beautiful way. Also Hilary Swank is so good in this role. In general the acting is great in this show.
That was the first good episode for me.

When the daughter comes out, I want to fast forward
