Their mobile phone scenes never made sense (even if they had an UMTS/LTE/etc. sender at their spaceship) but now they have to make their disrespect of physics so obvious? :o I don't even know where to begin... RTTs increase linearly with the distance from earth and the signal quality doesn't suddenly drop half way between mars and earth. BTW: "Radio waves propagate in vacuum at the speed of light c, exactly 299,792,458 m/s. Propagation time to the Moon and back ranges from 2.4 to 2.7 seconds, with an average of 2.56 seconds (distance from Earth to the Moon is 384,400 km)." (https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Earth%E2%80%93Moon%E2%80%93Earth_communication) A RTT of 2.56 s is already way too much for a casual phone conversation and for Mars this is obviously much worse: https://blogs.esa.int/mex/2012/08/05/time-delay-between-mars-and-earth/

This show bends the laws of physics and established procedures for space travel, etc. however they like. And I don't like that... A few good things though:
