Castle Rock: Season 1

1x07 The Queen

A master class in acting and superbly written and directed. Perfection!

This episode was so powerfully acted and so damned scary that I had to take a break at the 30 minute mark. Intense.

That was something. Something real.

What a genius of an episode! I love how it plays out in asynchrony, weaving scenes of the past and present together to share Ruth's side of the story. Takashi Shimizu had done this technique for his Ju-on (The Grudge) films, and that was why I was such a huge fan of his works. There was a wicked seamless transition where she "timewalks" out of the sheriff's office and right back into her kitchen. The chess pieces laid throughout each room are symbolic (She is "The Queen"). Sissy Spacek is so lovely, and I've been wanting to see the backstory of her character; so this turned to be quite an unnerving and tense episode with a tragic love story that ends with a bang. It's what I had hope for and more; definitely one of my favorites so far. <3

The best episode of the season so far. I'm a sensitive soul and this was as heartbreaking as the last episode of 11.22.63! I'm sure I have never shed this many thears after it caused by a tv episode. Just brilliant.

Creepy episode, fantastic brain trip

This was amazing. Best episode of the series so far, and one of the best hours of television I've seen this year. Sissy Spacek is fantastic, and so is the direction and editing.

I think this episode brought the series up a notch.

Just disappointed in the use of Scott Glenn as the Ed Harris Needful Things character. Not one mention of what happened in Needful Things.
So why is his character even in it ?
Still that might have been the best episode. Sad, weird and pretty well done. But what the hell is going on ?

This a spooky, scary TV show... WHERE NOTHING SCARY REALLY HAPPENS ???

Probably my favorite episode so far. Really well done and puts you in the mindset of Ruth.

Appreciate this episode, for portraying the cruel, blinding, debilitating curse that is Alzheimer's and the quality of writing and acting, but as an overall series narrative, I can't care for this show at all. Since the end of episode 2, the narrative has felt all over the place, and while little bits work, the whole feels messy.

I remember Greg Yaitanes from his work on House MD. He's one of the most underrated masters of non-linear, visual storytelling.

Truly think this is a perfect episode of television.

That was perhaps one of the most powerful episodes ever filmed.

Pray to god to not end up with a disease of this kind. Just like Ruth said, seems like a book where someone ripped the pages and changes their order... Best episode so far.

That was a cool final shot, with the chess pieces... but aside from that, I didn't care for this episode. It mostly just made me sad to see Ruth struggling with her dementia so much. And I won't miss Alan.

What an upside down episode!
