What a genius of an episode! I love how it plays out in asynchrony, weaving scenes of the past and present together to share Ruth's side of the story. Takashi Shimizu had done this technique for his Ju-on (The Grudge) films, and that was why I was such a huge fan of his works. There was a wicked seamless transition where she "timewalks" out of the sheriff's office and right back into her kitchen. The chess pieces laid throughout each room are symbolic (She is "The Queen"). Sissy Spacek is so lovely, and I've been wanting to see the backstory of her character; so this turned to be quite an unnerving and tense episode with a tragic love story that ends with a bang. It's what I had hope for and more; definitely one of my favorites so far. <3
